new to site, mailed away app today

Post by ssenniug »

Been lurking here for a month or so, tons of good information and I really enjoy the posts here.

I have been wanting CHL for a while now and just finally was able to get moving on it. I took the class 2 weekends ago and got some nice training in, working from holster for the first time. I got the packet completed and double checked, more like 15 times checked, and mailed away today. I'm just hoping it gets back in time before the Census hold. I can't wait.

I will post a follow up and my first experience carrying. After reading, I will uphold the time honored tradition of the "Wally Walk".

I own a Ruger P944 ( its a p94 chambered in .40 S&W) and have a Fobus OWB holter. Its HUGE/Thick, I print with that no matter what shirt I have on but will probably carry that IWB until I can afford a new weapon for concealed carry. I like the Ruger but have been eyeing a Glock 23, GT here in Austin has great prices on them. Im hoping to get enough money to get the new gun before or shortly after my card arrives.

Welcome SSENNLUG,
This really is a great site. The overall level of assistance that is offered by so many members is something. Hopefully your wait for DPS review and approval will be brief. It was interesting to see their notice about the FBI hold to process the Census workers!

I have a question now guys. I haven't received the PIN number in the mail from them yet, so I sent off an email. I will give them something, their replys are super quick.

I sent an email and asked when I should be expecting the PIN number, its been close to 2 weeks. I ordered a driving record that was supposed to take 2 weeks and that came in a few days. The reply that I got back is "Your application has not been entered into the system. It is likely going though the processes required before entry. When a completed application is entered you will be sent a confirmation letter with your PIN number."

People have been reporting that they receive plastic back within a month. What would be taking so long to enter the application? Any ideas of the process before an app is entered? Keep in mind that I went to class, got a packet that I filled out and mailed it in, I did not order a packet before class that was pre-filled out.

Thanks for the information guys.

Don't feel bad... we're in the same boat. I emailed them yesterday and guess what... I got the same exact answer. Since I initially applied online, I already have a PIN so I asked again (in different words) and got back: "AT THIS TIME IT HAS NOT BEEN TYPED INTO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. Please allow 2-3 weeks and check up on the status."

I think she was yelling because she thought I was deaf, dumb, blind or just plain stupid.:

My neighbor submitted his paperwork a day or two before me. He saw the status change yesterday to "Processing" so maybe we'll both see ours change in the next couple of days.
