I wasn't all that big, and could still run and workout, but the CrossFIT gym I'm at put me on a great eating plan to lean up and see big performance gains. Through eating alone I lost 17lbs.

For those interested, check out the Paleo-Zone diet. It's a combo of the Zone and the Paleo diets.

It works. Most I know have lost 15-20lbs a month doing this.

Excellent. Conga-rats on some great progress! :thumbs2:

I'm down 25 lbs in 9 weeks using the old "eat right and exercise" method.

Whats your ultimate goal?

I'm gonna keep melting for another month, and then we can tailor my eating based on gains/performance in the gym. Utimate goal? Make SWAT on my first tryout (a year away prob) and then in 4 years time possibly go through FBI tactical recruiting program for HRT. I've always been a runner (did the austin half 2 yrs ago), but CrossFIT is a whole different ball game. The movements are crazy. And you can do it for free.

I go to a crossfit gym in my area because the accountability and customization is great. Plus they're equipment is great, tons of rings and ropes hanging down in a warehouse style facility with rubber floors.

If you can honestly do the prescribed workout everytime you go.... you will have no problem
passing whatever physical portion of the SWAT test there is....
you're getting to go free? as LEO? because DallasCentral is $165-175 per month.
good luck with your program.

Edit: I realize each Crossfit gym makes up their own workout plan. Some more intense
than others, depends on the trainers.

I'm working on the same thing. Both my bride-to-be and I have seriously adjusted the types of foods we buy and eat. We've been paying attention to both the ingredients and calories in nearly everything we eat. Whole grains, lean meats, and greens are the emphasis.

I am by no means a slightly-built person, and have a large frame and vastly more muscle mass than the average person. At my height of fitness when I was 17 (swimming NINE 1.5 - 2 hour sessions and cycling 200 miles per week) I was around 185 pounds and 6' tall. I've put on more upper-body muscle since then (along with fat, obviously), and tip the scales at 290. I would venture to say that It would be near impossible (and probably unhealthy) to get down below 200, so I'm shooting for around 215 in the long run.

My predicament is with exercise. I'm not built for sustained running - even at 17, I was terrible at it. Hiking/backpacking distances is more my style, but that's difficult to work into a regular schedule. If it were practical, I'd walk the 4 miles to work and back every day. However, carry is banned at work, and disarmament isn't something I'm willing to do in my commute, particularly considering some of the areas my walking route would take me through. The same problem, besides the 1K or so for a proper bike, exists for commuting to work by bicycle.

As it stands, both my fiance and I have worked out a plan for walks after work, but I'd really like to get something more than that in for sustained activity.

Any suggestions/successes ya'll have to share would be appreciated.

My gym has both Krav Maga and CrossFit. I've been doing KM for about 6 weeks now and CF for about 2 weeks. I've actually gained a few pounds - but the fat is definitely going away and I feel MUCH better. My strength, agility and balance have improved dramatically.

The CF workouts are incredible - and we sometimes use mini-CF workouts for KM warmup. This is the first exercise regime I've found that I think I'll actually keep up. Even though my gym uses the workout of the day from crossfit.com, the value add of having a coach and competing with your fellow students makes attending far preferable to doing it for free at home.

I have a similar challenge when it comes to cardio issue. I'm a mesomorph leaning toward endo. I'm 6'2" and at my fittest I was 250# @ 12%bf (think "linebacker" build). If I even think about running I get shin splints. I've found that, for me, a stationary recumbent bike is the answer. I put $400 into a decent quality one and have been really happy with it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add: Deadlifts!

Do you have a link to a website with the guidelines for the Paleo-Zone diet? I searched google and just found a lot of comparisons. My wife is always looking for new diets to try.

My gym is $100/mo for everyone. They guy that runs it is a former recon marine, so he's a good resource for other training too. It's alot, but not when you weigh out the personal aspect. I can text him day or night with a food or workout question.

I've lost 15 lbs in the last 2 months by doing nothing but stop drinking soft drinks. If I actually got off my lazy butt and worked out I'm sure I could have doubled that.

Congrats on your losing and good luck with SWAT! That was always a goal of mine before an injury ended my LE career, but I was looking at going Fed.
