First presidential election I listened to on the radio was for Ike.

The first presidential election I voted in was JFK. Wound up guarding him two years later.

Now 71 and counting.....

If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.

39 and 346/365ths. Aaaalmost to the magical age of 40, where I am told the fun begins.

And I'll have been a "State-Certified Good Guy" for one year on May 14.

Boy, I'm in the 4% group! Just because I was serving in Korea when JFK was shot, doesn't make me old, does it? Just remember what comedian Larry Miller says:

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than ten years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.
"How old are you?" "I'm four and a half."
You're never 36 and a half....you're four and a half going on 5. You get into your teens; now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number.
"How old are you?"
"I'm gonna be 16." You could be 12, but you're gonna be 16. Eventually.
Then the great day of your life; you become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony You BECOME 21....Yes!!!!!
Then you turn 30. What happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk. He TURNED; we had to throw him out. What's wrong? What changed? You BECOME 21; you TURN 30.
Then you're PUSHING 40....stay over there.
You REACH 50.
You BECOME 21; you TURN 30; You're PUSHING 40; you REACH 50; then you MAKE IT to 60. By then you've built up so much speed, you HIT 70.
After that, it's a day by day thing. You HIT Wednesday...
You get into your 80's; you HIT lunch, you HIT 4:30. My Grandmother won't even buy green bananas. "Well, it's an investment, you know, and maybe a bad one."
And it doesn't end there....

Into the 90's, you start going backwards. "I was JUST 92."
Then a strange thing happens; if you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half."

Happy aging!

I remember when McDonald's burgers were $.15, Elvis was still alive and shaking, everyone had a Hoola Hoop, transistor radios were the iPods, JFK got assassinated, we put a man on the moon, and kids played outside all day long and your parents said "make sure you're home before the street lights come on".

Yeah, I guess I am an old fart... :tiphat:
Now that brings back some memories!!

Ahhh, he's one of my favorites. He has, or used to have, a great column at the Weekly Standard.
“Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.”

Reading all these great memories from you "distinguished" types, reminds me of one of my favorite books I've ever read. It's about how you're NEVER too old to learn something new or keep striving. It's called "Life is So Good" by George Dawson, who was born the grandson of slaves and learned to read for the first time in his life at the age of 98. My own grandfather learned to use a computer and send emails in his 90s - while suffering from a degenerative eye disease that left him all but blind.

I ain't there yet (not even close), but I hope and pray I'll still be learning and striving well into my "old age". Maybe by then we'll have CRGL "Concealed Ray Gun License" ;-)

Old enough to know better. Still too young to care.
