Trying to produce training materials utilizing screen shots in Windows is very time consuming. Even with a screen capture program, it's a major pain. The Annoyed Man wrote:You had to actually get a screen capture program? The capability isn't native to the Windoze operating system like it is to Mac OS? You poor child.WildBill wrote:I am well aware of this TAM. That is why I have a screen capture program. Gross - notice how mine was already cropped? Far superior. Furthermore osx will save the file as a much more useable .png file. That is a connoisseur file type...not a .bmp or .jpg or whatever winbloze uses.USA1 wrote:Did it. But my IT tech..I mean my son showed me a different way by

Well, while I was doing it, my son showed me that I could easily "crop" or show only what I wanted to. Even do some editing to it with MS paint. I said.."naw, that's good nough"gigag04 wrote:Gross - notice how mine was already cropped? Far superior. Furthermore osx will save the file as a much more useable .png file. Doubt I'll ever use it anyway. And if I need to I'll probably forget how.

Depends on whether you just want to crop it to the window itself. Alt-PrintScreen copies only the active window. (In Windoze, that is.)USA1 wrote:Well, while I was doing it, my son showed me that I could easily "crop" or show only what I wanted to. Even do some editing to it with MS paint. The problem with Apple products? Apple won't let me run my own code on it.

There is that... but from my standpoint, it's irrelevant — the reason being that everything I do is web-based anyway. And if need be, I could do my PHP/mySQL development on my local drive, but I don't want to. It's far more useful to me to do the development on the server where the site resides. But you're right... Apple is not easily forthcoming with their KDI.OldSchool wrote:The problem with Apple products? Apple won't let me run my own code on it.

I have been using Tech Smith's Snag It for years, making training materials and all kinds of pic captures, a three key salute opens a capture session, and away you go.WildBill wrote:Trying to produce training materials utilizing screen shots in Windows is very time consuming. Re: Trying something out
All Windows users should have irfanview, small, fast, does screen captures, crops and rescaling(shrinks the pics for emails), and its free.
Windows and Apple is a way to pay for something inferior that the rest of us get for free.
