Question about the supertuck

I have been researching my iwb options and am pretty much sold on the crossbreed. My wife has a concern about the lack of a retaining strap. One of the places that we will often carry (both of us) will be on trail rides. She is afraid of the weapon coming out during one of the "hairy moments" that inevidably will occur on horseback. I'm looking for some advice either from supertuck owners that have experienced some "bumpy" moments or some other options for carrying on horseback that are still accessible. I don't care for off body carry so I prefer to not do the saddlebag carry. I will still be using the supertuck for EDC when not on horseback.

Weapons being concealed:
Mine - Beretta 96 in .40 S&W
wifey's FNH (FN9 w/ 3" bbl).

If I have to go with saddlebag carry, I will carry the 4" Ruger Security Six in .357 mag.

I have never had a single issue with the Glock 30 in a Crossbreed. It clicks in place and stays in place. We went bed shopping and I never felt like the weapon was going to drop out. We went to Home Depot and loaded sheets of MDF onto the truck, again I never felt the gun was going to drop. I admit I haven't ridden a horse with the CB, but then again I have never ridden a horse! The only issue I have had with my P250 40 cal in a Supertuck has been with the Velcro clips coming loose from the belt and working its way up on my pants, Although I haven't worn my gun while on a horse unless your using Velcro clips you shouldn't have an issue. I have been on play ground equipment with the kids and have never had a retention issue. you body will hold the gun in tight. Don't base retention on the gun in the holster with out it being on your body. If your planning on Velcro clips buy some from Comp-Tac.
If your going to be in a hot environment and not where a undershirt get the horse hide, it wont absorb sweat and wont stick to your skin.
I have both the Super Tuck and the Comp-Tac Mtac, they are both great each with their pros and cons.

I was in a dog park (yes, I know, where is this story going?). (btw i have a Minituck, but I do assume that the supertuck and minituck are about identical in hold)
2 dogs got into it, and knowing 1 dog and his owner, i jumped in there, pulled the boxer off an in doing it, I basically threw myself down, hard. As an afterthought, I reached to be sure I was still concealed, and I was, and also, the weapon was still 100% seated.

You can tighten up the Supertuck on the gun but that might cause problems drawing it out. Having said that I grew up on and still live on a ranch and having been in a storm when a horse blows up plenty of times, in my experience even things tied down come loose(along with me sometimes).

However I may have an idea that would work. Why not take a wide and heavy rubber band and loop it thru your belt and then around the grip of the pistol. If you had to use it the band could be broken pulling the gun out. Never tried this but don't see why it wouldn't work. Just an idea.

However I may have an idea that would work. Why not take a wide and heavy rubber band and loop it thru your belt and then around the grip of the pistol. If you had to use it the band could be broken pulling the gun out. Never tried this but don't see why it wouldn't work. Just an idea.

I like the rubber band idea, but I got a mental image of using the heavy duty rubber bands, trying to draw and having the bands jerk the gun from my hand and back into the holster.

Maybe a little trial and error on the size of bands is called for. Let me know how it works.

I have used a Supertuck for a year and a half. I have never reached for my PT145 to see if it was still seated properly in the holster. After chasing grandkids, crawling around in the attic and rebuilding my wood fence, the pistol has never moved unless I pulled it from the holster.

Another thought here, is if your supertuck is a bit loose, you can always hair dryer the kydex and change the mold slightly to make it just a bit tighter

Never carried on horseback but I was carrying my compact 1911 in my Supertuck while shooting hoops in the driveway with my son. Not a flat out basketball game but plenty of jumping and moving around. The gun never loosened up in the holster at all, the Supertuck has very good retention.

Glad to hear all the great feedback about the supertuck. Looks like we made the right choice. As I said, I'm not a big fan of off body carry and didn't want to resort to saddlebag carry.

I got a similar mental image, but the pistol was flung at the bad guy .... however, a slingshot worked for David versus Goliath ... so why not

Really, just tighten your belt is all you need to do, if that doesn't work "comfortably", get a better belt, or try a Wilderness Safepacker worn on your belt while riding horses.

Another option if you feel the holster is a bit too loose is to contact Crossbreed and have them retension the holster. It is a free service they offer if you are the original owner of the holster. I have four of the Supertuck's and I've taken advantage of the service a couple of times now. They even fix things up if you were the one to make a mess of the holster by trying to do it yourself!

I've been wearing mine everyday for over a month now, there is no way my firearm is going to fall out of this holster. They come with a darn good fit, plus your belt also helps retain the gun.
