For those who are considering carrying without one in the pipe.

The only time my 2 handguns aren't loaded is when I've fired everything from the mag and the slide is locked backed or when I'm cleaning the guns. Unloaded guns kill. Because my gun is always loaded, I don't lose respect for what it can do if mishandled, My wife and I will never make the assumption that the handguns are unloaded and ready to make bang and holes..

I do not presume that not carrying with one in the pipe is more dangerous than not carrying at all, even if it isn't much better than being unarmed.

I voted that I carry one in the chamber but I carry two guns so strictly speaking that is 2 in the chambers.

With the Bersa I sometimes get 2 in the one chamber too! "rlol"

I feel that in a life or death situation the last thing I want worry about is trying to draw my pistol and rack the slide to get a round in. From the stories I read, it doesn't happen the way you see in movies. No pointing the pistol at the attacker, talking to them for a little bit, then racking the slide to load the pistol so that they know your'e serious and will shoot.

Bottom line, When speed is important, I won't waste time loading my pistol.
:iagree: One in the chamber - cocked and locked.

The BG is not going to grant me TIME-OUT to rack the slide.

It isn't very often that I quote myself!

Anyway, this reminds me of when I worked in an ER, and a friend of mine at the time who was a local cop accidentally shot himself in the upper thigh while re-holstering his revolver while seated in his squad car. He'll tell you it was the dumbest thing he ever did. The bullet entered the outer part of his thigh just below the hip, and exited the inner part of his thigh, just above the knee. Of course, he got a raging wound infection because the discharge blew tiny bits of holster and pants fabric into the wound track.

The gun in question was whatever revolver was the standard duty weapon for the Pasadena California PD at the time. He described the caliber to me while he was still laying on a gurney in the ER as "a high velocity .38 Special," which presumably means a +P load. He had drawn the gun and hidden it under his left arm when the driver of another car several cars behind him at a stoplight suddenly jumped out of his car and ran forward toward Steve's driver's side window. It turned out that all the guy wanted was to ask directions (and he obviously wasn't very bright about how he carried that out). Steve told the guy to get the heck back in his vehicle, and then started to re-holster his gun when he accidentally pulled on the trigger, or snagged it on something, discharging the weapon.

No safety, and a round in all six "pipes," but that isn't what got him shot. What got him shot was not paying enough attention to what he was doing. If you are going to carry, and possibly deploy, a pistol of any kind - revolver, semi-auto, with or without a safety mechanism - you had better be darn sure you're paying attention. Otherwise, leave it home.

I couldn’t believe my BIL who was a Marine (and has a CHL) actually gave me a hard time about it. I began to wonder if Marines carry their sidearms un-chambered, so I asked my Dad, who was also a Marine, but he said he never carried a sidearm when he was in the Corps…..though he was pretty sure they would be carried chambered.
I was a Marine and a Soldier. We never carried one in the chamber when in Garrison (Stateside). Even in Afghanistan it was frowned upon on the FOB, but they couldn't enforce it with my team (Special Operations, we were an attached unit). So I carried locked and loaded on and off base over there.
So I talked to my dad about this again last night and it appears my memory of our previous conversation (it was over a year ago) was less than accurate. When I asked him the question again, he gave the same answer you did. It was the MPs he wasn’t certain about; if they carried chambered or not.

Just wanted to clarify for my Dad’s sake.

Some guys always argues this point with me on this forum, I think his nickname is something about wind or dust. Anyway, he always cites that there's some sort of Israeli infantry training that he up on that enables him to rack the slide while drawing. Imagine how confusing it must be to keep up with whether there is a round chambered in a firefight. I would find myself racking it (and wasting a round) every time I needed to fire out of fear that it wouldn't go bang. I'm gonna' have to go with the crowd and say, "CHAMBERED!!'

There's one of those on almost every gun board. I think he's related to Gekko45.

There is a series of YouTube videos of a guy in the Philippines who does something like that. He's really quick, too. But I just can't see it happening. Maybe it's because I spent the better part of an hour one afternoon trying that with my 1911 and failing spectacularly. Maybe my recoil spring is too heavy and it is easier with a 9mm, but still - how one would have the presence of mind to do that without hundreds upon hundreds of reps is beyond me.

Not to mention the possibility of needing one's off hand to be doing something else at the time of the draw. Then what?
"I don't know how that would ever be useful, but I want two!"

Springs are cheap - your gun and your life aren't.

A friend of mine said he didn't like Glocks due to the lack of a safety. I told him mine does have a safety, it is simple to use. Don't make me mad.. that is the safety! LOL

Ask him to grab the trigger from the outside edges and make the gun fire.
