My guess she has more issues then drinking. Even when par-taking of the liquid(Stupidity, Courage,etc...) this is not rash behavior for a emotionally stable person even drunk. Drinking just loosens the underlying problems to surface. Like you said there is more to this story and I am sure it will be kept a quite as possible so as not to bring shame on the DPD, Which is only guilty by association.C-dub wrote:They were just going to give her a ride home, just like any of us would do for a friend too drunk to drive. I believe this is the reason they did not check her for weapons. Oops! But, if I knew or thought my friend had a weapon I would get it from them and unload it.gigag04 wrote: Agree 100% - this however is not the question I asked - I asked about not shooting their partner and friend which was brought up. I'm also still unclear from the article whether she was arrested or getting taken home - that could've factored into their decision.
However, as my friend told me, there is WAY more to this than has been released and the one shot that went through the floor of the car is not the only shot she fired.

Amen! I agree 100% that CHLers should be allowed.gigag04 wrote:Is every off duty cop drinking excessively at a 51% location? My tit-for-tat comment was more sarcastic in nature to highlight the ridiculous idea that because one officer screwed up all cops can't handle the responsibility of carrying in a bar. It seems like more of a spoiled, jealous cry baby, plea than a reasonable and articulate argument. Many (probably a significant majority) departments (including mine) have policy restricting carry of a weapon AND/OR badge while consuming alcohol in a public place.
Instead of limiting the carry privileges enjoyed by LEOs why don't we work to get CHLs carry in bars?
My apologies for missing any sarcasm in previous threads...I only saw what you had quoted, so I was basing it off of that. I didn't see any sarcasm in those...

I agree with expanding the places CHLs can carry to match LEOs but I also think the intoxication rule should apply to everyone, for the same reason the DWI laws. I also think 49.04. DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED should have the same penalty as carrying while intoxicated, especially considering the number of people drunk drivers kill or seriously injure.gigag04 wrote:Instead of limiting the carry privileges enjoyed by LEOs why don't we work to get CHLs carry in bars?
This will only hurt a little. What comes next, more so.

I don't agree with the 51% part. I can, and do, go to 51% establishments and not drink. Designated driver..... no impaired judgment....Cobra Medic wrote:After the elections, I'm writing to the winners to say the 51% and intoxication rules should apply to everyone equally. However, I don't have a problem with the intoxicated part. There should also be an established limit as with DWI.
Just my 2 cents

I agree. I met some men yesterday for a business lunch in a 51% location. We were there to eat, not drink, the place makes great burgers and homemade cottage fries. I've also had this situation while riding a bike, 51% location and I didn't know in advance, and I've had to cancel the lunch because I will not disarm and leave a weapon on the bike unsecured.
I'm hoping the 51% problem, campus carry, and the employee parking lot bill are resolved in the near future.
Not holding my breath, but I do have my fingers crossed.

Anyone seen any follow up on this? I searched about 5 pages into google and have not found anything recent.

Re: Video:Drunk Dallas PD gal shoots car floor w/ankle revol
This whole thing could have turned out so tragic.I don't blame them for taking her home if she had not been caught driving drunk or doing anything more than being drunk in the bar. Most friends would do that for each other, but there is a huge difference between having a couple drinks and drinking to get unconscious. In the latter case, she should not have been armed and they just didn't seem to consider checking her for a weapon. We don't excuse the decision to drive a car drunk. The decision to carry a weapon drunk isn't much different no matter who you are. From eleven years with an alcoholic, though, I know they rarely seem to develop much wisdom.
