Re: Glock Haters?
Okay, I'll come out of the closet: I hate Glocks.
But my hatred has nothing to do with the utility of the weapon - they are extremely good at what they are built to do. But who says that a tool has to be ugly? I know, I know: why have a pretty gun when your objective is to hide it from site? But to me, there is an inherent beauty in most 1911s and my personal favorite Smith revolvers.
I'm the type of guy who loves my guns. I could never "love" a Glock. I could admire it's mechanical design, efficiency, and ability to get the job done... but I could never love one.

Re: Glock Haters?
All kidding aside, I don't think I could say I hate any gun. There are some I love more than others, but I love all guns and I really love that there are so many different guns to choose from. That is the reason that my range trips involve many different guns to fire. Sig's, Glocks, Kimbers, Kahrs, Smith and Wesson.... revolvers... semi autos.... various calibers... They all rock in my humble opinion.
I typically find that when someone claims hatred for a particular gun it is mainly due to a lack of skill or ability to master that particular gun to the point of actually being able to hit anything with it. Secondly, when I hear someone proclaim that a gun is junk because it is a Glock, I am instantly notified that the person making said proclamation has very limited knowledge of firearms and is not to be taken seriously from that point forward. I am certain that a few folks here and there have gotten a lemon in just about any brand or style of firearm, it doesn't qualify as evidence that all weapons of this make or model are junk until the majority of gun owners are making this statement. I don't have the evidence, but I bet Glock sells more firearms than most manufacturers in existence today and this means that there are bound to be more "lemons" than in a manufacturer selling half as many guns. I have also noticed more Glocks hanging off the belts of Police officers than any other brand or style also. This in itself is telling us all something.
As for choosing a gun based on looks, nothing, in my humble opinion, can touch the looks of an early model Smith and Wesson Revolver. I have always loved the looks of revolvers over any semi-auto.
Here is an example of a beautiful hand gun, Colt ... Wish I could afford them. Starting bid is over 4500 bucks!!!

I'm in trouble now. My Glock now has "serious" competition. Went to start break in on the new Colt Defender today. I'm not a great shot with pistols, never have been. Only qualified Sharpshooter in the military many years ago. Much better with rifles and, of course, cannon, mini guns, rockets, missles and grenade launchers But, with range practice I'm getting better. Being retired, I go at least twice a week, sometimes more.G26ster wrote:Oh well, if I must Colt Defender in 9mmglbedd53 wrote:Don't just talk about it, lets see a pic.
Here's today's target. 50 rds, 5 and 7yds, 1 shot pr 2 seconds, 8 rd mags, 6" and 2" targets. No malfunctions with WWB 115 gr.FMJ ammo. Got more work to do. The low shots on the 6" target were the first. I was using 6 o'clock hold, then switched to POA. I think this little 3" 1911 is a keeper for sure
Re: Glock Haters?
It just could be that there are some shooters out there that don't like a gun and have master level knowledge of gun craft? I for one dislike Glocks a lot. I find them too blocky with controls I can't reach due in part to the blocky nature of the design. I find the gun to be tiring to shoot. Yet in spite of this I can hit my target just fine with a Glock and STILL don't like it!I typically find that when someone claims hatred for a particular gun it is mainly due to a lack of skill or ability to master that particular gun to the point of actually being able to hit anything with it.

PS...... I took the liberty of putting the jester back in that was meant to point out I was kidding around.

Re: Glock Haters?
When I first shot a Glock I hated it. They are not the greatest comfort or fit in my hand. I prefer the Springfield XD to hold. I still bought the Glock after several officers and friends recommended them. I now own a 27 and 20 and have put close to 2,000 rounds through the 27 and 700 through the 20 with no jams ever, only a few bad rounds and primers. That being said I have several friends with other semi autos and all have had at least one jam at some point. Both my dad and brother own Glocks and the only one who ever had a round not chamber was my brothers G17. He purposely fired the gun until it jammed. He got to 250+ before it jammed and then fired another 40 rounds until he shot 300 rounds and called it a day with no other jams. I would say thats pretty good. Don't get me wrong I know any gun can jam or not feed a round but my Glock chambers and has fired a round every time except when I have used cheap ammo, Blazer aluminum and Fiocchi. I trust it with my life. There are only a few other firearm companies I would trust my life with and Glock is just one of them. Springfield and S&W being two such examples.

It's cause you have those little tiny, dainty fingers. So you have to shoot one of those 1911 style girly guns.CompVest wrote:It just could be that there are some shooters out there that don't like a gun and have master level knowledge of gun craft? So do pickup truck forums have as many Ford vs. Chevy debates as gun forums have Glock vs. 1911 debates?

Nope, everyone knows Fords are the best trucks. They do get a lot of Chevy versus Dodge debates for second place though.
