Technically no "learning" goes on in there but it is still a part of the overall educational institution so it seems kinda gray to me.Sec. 46.03. PLACES WEAPONS PROHIBITED. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly possesses or goes with a firearm, illegal knife, club, or prohibited weapon listed in Section 46.05(a):
(1) on the physical premises of a school or educational institution, any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by a school or educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger transportation vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether the school or educational institution is public or private, unless pursuant to written regulations or written authorization of the institution;

School admin offices
Would school admin offices that are in a separate building just for administration be off limits per 46.03?
Re: School admin offices
I think the fact that the activities there are part of the school system would make it at best a very gray area. IANAL, but would think it best ot leave it in the car.evilmercer wrote:Would school admin offices that are in a separate building just for administration be off limits per 46.03?

A Pearland ISD coach and CHL was arrested for bringing his weapon in to the administration building.
I love the sound smell of jet fuel in the morning.

Re: School admin offices
Interesting, but administration offices are not a school. There are no classrooms or instruction of students going on. Maybe there could be a difference if the administration offices are on the same campus, but some ISD's offices are not.
I wonder how this would play if we were talking about the headquarters for Budweiser or Jack Daniels? While their products are sold in bars, the headquarters are clearly not bars that are statutorily off limits in some states.

Re: School admin offices
I was wondering this as well since Alvin's Admin office is in town away from all the schools. Daughter went there to test out of 8th grade and I wasnt sure, left it in the car.

I've often wondered the same thing about ESCs (educational service centers). Quasi-governmental, no K-12 education, but there is continued ed credit. Definitely a gray area! (The Region 10 ESC in Richardson is 30.06-placarded, which leads me to believe the administrative folks at the ESC are confused as well.)
