Ohhhh - a Gun Belt - Now I get it!!!!

So I just couldn't figure out how a 'Gun Belt' could make that much of a difference. I saw people say they were thicker - but I was just thinking wider (or taller as worn). So I've got a nice regular but wide (1 1/2") belt and I couldn't figure our how a wide belt that was branded 'gun belt' could make any difference.

So I just finally looked at a 'gun belt' at Collectors and now it all makes since. Thicker means THICKER. That thing is seriously thick - not just wider. Its like a steel band! Now I get it ...

But those suckers were $100+ each. I'm sure there are some not quite so pricey. Does any one know if there are any reversible (brown/black) gun belts out there?

I actually got mine at the Rodeo last year. Its about 3 times the thickness of leather than your typical belt. And stiff as all getout (that's a technical term). They custom size them to you for only $30. I've never seen another deal anywhere close to that. Usually you can expect to pay between $60-$150 for a nice belt that would actually do the job. And its important to have a good belt as I can attest to in my other post here: http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=35954" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I just got a nice one from Comp-Tac, I think they are having a sale on certain sizes etc. I got mine for 50bucks which is still good for a leather belt of any sort. Depends I think if they have any in your size.....and you are correct they are like a steel band, mine has Kydex in it and is stiff as all get out! Great for hanging a pistol on though

Got mine from D.M. Bullard. Price was about $60.00.

I also use a Wilderness Tactical Instructor's belt which cost $39.99, and it is very rugged. In fact, it's a little bit stiffer than my leather gun belt. It works real well.

You might take a look at http://www.graveyardmall.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I got some 5.11 tactical series belts from them last year for $2.99 each. They have limited colors and sizes, but you get a large one and butcher it down to fit. I am really pleased with what I got and it makes a big difference in carry comfort. I think that what I bought were at http://www.graveyardmall.com/110belttanxxl.html. Even if it does not work out for you, there is not much risk in the purchase with the $2.99 price. I do not recall, but I think shipping came to about $10 for six belts.

I started with a 5.11 tactical belt and thought it was fantastic. I then got a MTAC holster with the velcro clips and the velcro didn't stay put on the 5.11 belt, so I used that as justification to give myself a new belt from The Beltman with the stitched on velcro. It just arrived a couple of days ago and I still marvel at how much better it is than the 5.11. Best birthday present I've picked out and ordered for myself in a long time.

I've been well pleased with my Wilderness Tactical belt. I've had this one for around 4 years or so. I use it with a CompTac IWB holster and a CompTac OWB holster when at the range. Unfortunatly, I believe the belt has shrunk recently , so its time for a new one :roll:

I dont get to carry at work, so I havent had a need for a nice leather dress belt. CompTac has some nice ones-- sometimes on sale.

You'll be suprised how a good, "holster-oriented" belt makes it easier to carry and easier to draw.

Not just thicker but stiffer.

My 5.11 leather belt is not really extremely thick but it's very stiff
which helps distribute the weight...of the gun that is. ;-)

Looper leather in OKC makes a good belt as well, $60 IIRC.

That is my favorite belt for casual wear too. It's top quality, reasonably priced, durable, and supports gun / holster / mag pouches etc. just fine. The buckle design and hook and loop fastener on the free end makes it infinitely adjustable within its size range too.

What's not to like?
