Yes, another newb...been lurkin a while

#1

Post by rinnels69 »

Hello all!
I've been lurkin around here for a month or 2 now...taken the class, filled out the online forms, just have to shoot, get the pics, prints and wait.

I'm a 20+ yr AF vet, going to "retire" in about a year or so :patriot: Haven't bought my carry weapon yet, but I'm looking at a Taurus PT 740 Slim since my G22C is a little large..even for my 6'5" 240 lb frame.

:cheers2: Welcome, I do more lurking than posting as I am not as up to date on all the legal issues and the different guns as others are. You can learn a lot from these guys and gals, but be prepared to see some of the same issues come up over and over. It's all good, a great bunch here. Again, welcome aboard.

We like newbs. Welcome to the Forum. From my personal experience here, there are a bunch of really good solid people here that will give you education that you don't have to "earn" on your own.

Plus, the dozen or so of the poeple I have met in real life from the forum have all been great experiences. Normal folks (your definition of normal may or may not vary from my definition, but it has been good from my viewpoint)

Thanks joe817...I actually hail from the great state of Iowa (with the exception of concealed carry...or lack of it...), but I am currently stationed here in Wichita Falls at Sheppard AFB.

Welcome sir to the CHL Forum, where we have both
gun nuts and gun enthusiasts!! You make the value judgment. :-)

You can put the the AFB name or just "Wichita Falls" into your profile
and that way, every time you post, the rest of us will know your "20".

Iowa now has concealed carry. The guv signed the bill within the last
few months.

Our forum member "mikeintexas" is an Iowa native. He enlisted us
from the forum to send emails to the Iowa guv asking him to sign
the bill. It was fun to reach out to another state in order that our
2A (2nd Amendment) friends up there would get the right to
carry legally.

The more you carry, the smaller your gun gets by the way. :-)

Answers to frequently asked q's:
1. Yes, carry 24/7, wherever allowed by TX statute.
2. Yes, always carry with one in the chamber.
3. Only a true 30.06 sign prevents you from entering a bldg.
Ignore anything else that purports to prevent you from carrying.
4. Texas CHL law allows you to carry as many guns as you can conceal.
5. New Mexico has CHL reciprocity with us, but if you visit in NM,
their CHL law allows only ONE weapon on you, not multiples.

USA1, et al:

When I first started carrying my PT111 it seemed huge.
Now it seems much smaller. I'd consider a bigger gun
without any issues about concealing it. And I'm only 5'9"
and average weight. I always find it funny that much bigger
guys than me have worries about concealing anything smaller
than an M249 SAW. :-)

Plus sometimes I even carry BOTH of my guns at the same
time. The Taurus is in an OWB rig and the Rossi is in an IWB
rig. But I need to get a better rig for the Rossi.

The keys to anyone's gun getting smaller:
1. Good rig that holds your piece in place.
2. T-shirt/Hawaiian/Guyabara (sp?) with some volume.
3. Realizing that other people in the world don't realize
that they are supposed to detect your gun, although it's covered.

Stay calm.
Carry on.
