Glock 19

Really thinking about a Glock 19 for CCW. I need some opinons......

1. Is it worth the extra coin for the adjustable sights
2. Are the polymer sights ok, or should I go with steel (if I don't get the adjustable one's).
3. Do the standard sights hit point of aim fairly well?

I don't own a Glock, but I have shot several.
#1: I don't recommend adjustable sights on a carry gun, simply put its just something else that can go wrong.
#2: They work, although they are not my favorite sights. In my opinion upgrading sights is always worth it, I would recommend night sights of some sort.
#3: Depending on how far away you are, yes.

But forget that Glock, save up some extra $$$ and get yourself a real gun, like an awesome new 1911 (J/K).

Thanks. Gotta 1911. The 19 will be dual purpose and having the extra rounds is desirable. 1911, 66, and PPK/S are all carry guns, too.

In all honesty, the Glock 19 is a fine pistol (It just needs 11 appended to the model number), but I couldn't let the other 1911 guys beat me to ribbing you about it.

a stock glock will do it part, if you do yours. I have a gen 2, its not failed me yet.
I think Im goning to be swiching to a set of xs 24/7 sights soon on mine.

I recommend checking out the Glock 26 as you can have more choices with the 26. You can use the 19 magazines too when needed, but yet, for deep concealment, you can use the 26 magazine.

I had both, but always favored the 26. I also found that I was even a tad more accurate up to about 13 yards with the 26.

I have night sights (factory) that have been great. I also have a Crimson Trace installed which works awesome. The laser on the Glocks is really over-kill if tactical options are not required.

The G-19 is a wonderful gun. Pick any sights you want or take them off and go bare back, it's still great. The G-26 is lighter and the grip is a little shorter. You give up stuff for that.

I am a 1911 guy, but if I had to pick one gun it would be the G-19.

I carry a 19 IWB and it is my favorite gun to shoot out of any I have shot.

I also own a 26 (Fiance's daily carry) but I believe the 19 is a better frame. If you choose the 26, get the Pierce mag bottoms that extend the grip to the pinky. This also helps with recoil, as I am not a fan of shooting the 26.

The stock sights are some of the best I have used/seen. Many people have held my gun and immediately fallen in love with the ease of aiming. Obviously, this makes point of aim top notch IMO. I wouldn't mind some night-sights, but the box shape of the Glock sights makes it very easy for me to shoot any Glock I have had the chance to shoot, accurately.

If you are near, or ever near Winchester shooting gallery when I am around, I will gladly let you shoot mine in exchange for shooting any of yours.

My wife carries a G19 but hers is in her pocket book so concealment isn't a big deal.

We had Tru-Glo night sights fitted and the gun has yet to have a failure.

Personally I carry a G30 and have never had a problem concealing that with a Cross Breed Super Tuck....which I would thoroughly recommend.

The G19 will be a good purchase and should give you years of flawless service.

I have a 19 and a 26, used to own 17, 17L, and all sizes of the .45, 10mm, and .40 ... If I could only have 1, I'd keep my 26 I carry daily (you can carry a 26 with a Glock 19 mag, or even a Glock 17 +3 mag, you can put an extended barrel [Glock 19 length] in a Glock 26)

The shorter 26 slide (blocky thick slide) makes it easier to carry than my 19 even with extended barrel and mags.

I get the cheapest stock sights, then upgrade to Advantage TACTICAL Sights
(I've used Meprolight and Triijicon and PT Night sights in the past, as well as stock sights and others, but I vastly prefer Advantage Tactical Sights with Yellow Front and Orange Rear on both my 19 and 26)

It depends on what you want to do with the gun. I put adjustables on mine to begin with, when the tritium died I replaced them with fixed. It now shoots point of aim at 25 yards.

2. Are the polymer sights ok, or should I go with steel (if I don't get the adjustable one's).
Glock plastic factory sights are horrible. The front post is .165 wide and the rear notch is .135 wide. Sure there is a big white dot on the front and a big white U on the back but you don't see any real open space or light on either side of the front post.
I have no experience with Glock factory metal sights. Look at Ameriglo Defoor sights for a good sight picture that is fast, accurate and inexpensive.

My wife owns a G19. Like gfmun said, it's a great little gun - and I'm a 1911 guy too. I've had the opportunity to shoot other models of Glocks in 9mm, .40 S&W, and 10mm. They have all worked as advertised, but I think that the G19 might be the very best compromise between size and concealability. The G26 does conceal better, but I think that most people would find it harder to control in their hand because of the abbreviated grips.

If you have your heart set on the G19, I don't think you'll be disappointed....

...Just don't fire a friend's 1911 afterwards.

Pearce PG-39 grip Extensions add 3 rounds and allow a 26 to carry 13+1 and give a little finger rest
On a 19, you'd have 18+1 (in less space than a Glock 17 mag) with the PG-13 Pearce grip extension
Often I also carry my 25 with a stock Glock 19 mag for 15+1, and a mag spacer. (Sometimes with a +3 extension for 18+1)
Of course at home I use a Glock 17 mag with that same extension for 20+1 in both my 26 and 19.
I don't think it is any harder to control at all than the shorter gripped 19 when I use a Glock 17+3 mag and mag spacer.
A 26 might be a little tougher to control if one only used a 10 round mag and +P+ heavy ammo.
I prefer critical Defense ammo.
The 19 doesn't go ankle holster as easily. I"m thinking of trading my 19 for a second 26.
The only thing you give up ... is the accessory rail, but I prefer internal lasers anyway.
So, 19 makes a better house gun if you want to mount a light on the rail, otherwise take a look at the 26.

The G19 is my carry gun of choice. If you get the stock steel sights or night sights you should be fine. If you get the stock polymer sights, just go and pick up some night sights for it later. Any of the sights from the factory will work out good for you aside from the factory adjustable sights. I've never had a problem with any of the stock sights in terms of accuracy. I don't recommend adjustable sights for a carry gun especially on a Glock. DON'T get the Glock factory adjustable sights, they are flimsy at best, and prone to breakage. Glocks are great guns and the G19 is one of the best that Glock makes. Hope that helps
