Took the comp tac plunge

I've started carrying the Tac II Ultra that I picked up. One of our detectives makes holsters, so I'm going to have him make a nice owb rig. I hate IWB but 1911s are doable IWB. The wait for a VMII was too long so I got a comp-tac.

I'm not happy about it, but it works. This is a huge complement since I hate Kydex, and hate IWB carry. I need the concealment though as I'll be back at A&M for more school starting in Jan and don't want to alarm the classmates.

I didn't like the thought of IWB for quite a while either. After getting a Minotaur for my G27 and realizing the flexibility this afforded me with my wardrobe I liked it a bit more. Several months later I'm completely sold on IWB and find it quite comfortable. It has it's time and place.

Hey. I still have yet to get a real gun belt. I'll probably wonder why I didn't sooner when I do finally take that plunge. You might feel the same after going IWB for a while.

Full plunge (CTAC) or did you just dip your toes in the water (MTAC)?

I have two CTACs that I really like, but haven't tried out an MTAC yet. I think it will grow on you, at least for the times that you need it.

What is the secret? I got mine for a Glock 19 this Saturday and I'm ready to send it back. I found it uncomfortable and a pain to even put on. I'm used to carrying OWB at 3 o'clock and have a DeSantis 1.5" belt. I even tried it with a pair of jeans that are really way too big around the waist. I tried several positions and really couldn't find a comfortable solution... about the only position made it impossible to get my wallet out of my back pocket. What am I missing here?

Try changing the cant. I have mine canted quite a bit forward, and it's very comfortable. It also hides the weapon better (my opinion) than a neutral cant does. I wear mine at about 3:00 (I'm right-handed), and it's very comfortable. The only thing I don't like about IWB is the bulge in the pants, but proper concealment clothing hides that anyway. With the MTAC, I can easily conceal with shorts and a t-shirt.

I have an MTAC, too. I wear mine with a cant (as Baldeagle suggested) at 4:30. I can drive a car comfortably and sit it most chairs easily. I carry a Sig P250 and it is almost flat with my back, meaning that it can hardly print unless I bend way over forward. I have a Comp Tac belt that I bought with the MTAC. I have always carried my wallet on the left so that isn't a problem. I carry MTAC's magazine holder OWB right above my wallet and have not had any problems with exposing it to get to the wallet.

I've never carried a weapon OWB so I cannot compare my experience to yours.

I have an MTAC that I like a lot. I finally got holster bodies for it for all of my carry guns (revolver excepted), and put all my other IWB holsters in a box. I've never tried a CTAC, but just based on the looks of it, I don't see how it could be as comfortable as an MTAC.

Like I said, it's doable. I'm wearing it at like 5 o clock, with a fairly aggressive cant, almost like an IWB SOB holster. It's OK. I still much prefer having my .380 in a pocket or on my ankle from a comfort perspective, but now I at least can have a 1911 with me.

I'll post a review in a few weeks and see if I am still sticking with it.

i have a milt sparks vmII, and after using that for a while, i just dont think iwb carry is for me anymore....owb at 3oclock is the only way to go for me anyway...for me i just cant get into trying to draw from the 5oclock position....

I found IWB to be uncomfortable for quite awhile after I got my CHL. I much prefer OWB but in the West Texas heat, it is very hard to wear a suitable cover garment during a lot of the year. This past summer I decided that I would just have to be uncomfortable and went IWB for a whole season and I finally got used to it. Now I don't notice it and for me, I feel that it offers much better concealment than any other option. I guess my point is that if you are willing to put up with the initial discomfort, you will likely adapt.

I wouldn't worry about it. After a couple weeks when people find out what you do for a living, they well all assume you are packing. If you are taking Criminal Justice classes, probably half of your classmates will be carrying too.

Gigag, if you ever have the chance to try the MTAC, it might change how you feel about IWB. I have a bad back, and most IWB holsters just aren't wearable for me because they put pressure on my sciatic nerve. But the MTAC (and probably the Crossbreed Supertuck too) spreads the pressure out over a larger area, and it is extremely comfortable as far as IWB holsters go.

I keep eyeing the MTAC, I just haven't really had a good reason to try out out yet. I started out with a CTAC and have stuck with it for as long as I've carried. I've been very happy with it, but it is very possible that I've adapted to it too.

I do have a Galco Royal Guard for my full sized 1911 that is comfortable, but I've learned that I like a sweat guard on my holsters.
