What's the most rounds you've fired

Today, I have fired the most numerous number of rounds so far in all my range trips: 800, which consisted of 500 9mm and 300 .22LR. This feat took me 3.5 hours of range time; people came while I was there and the same people leave while I was still there :)

I have never fired so many, and I noticed that I can actually get tired from firing a pistol even with some breaks. Towards the end my hands where shaking while trying to align the sights.

I find 800 rounds is probably too much for me for 1 trip :)

Usually I have some goals I work on when I hit the range, but today is different. I show up for a match and nobody was there (I got the date wrong). So I went home picked up more guns and ammo and hit the range. I have no goals besides burning up ammo and watching holes appear on a paper. I only saved my last target comparing a G19 and HK P2000; usually I save most targets for future reference.

Anyway, I've shot 800 rounds in 1 range trip. Top that! (spoken in a friendly tone...)

I generally go through 100 rounds per gun taken. Last time out (yesterday) 500 total. With 45's and good old Arther Ritus visiting, my hands and wrists were done at the end of the session.

However, going again today with my daughter. May have to watch her if the Advil doesn't kick in soon.

I likely shot 400-500 .22's when plinking in the country, but never 800 rounds in a day. Don't get me wrong......if all of the shots had a purpose in training or practice and my wife would not kill me...I would be happy to shoot that many. If I start shooting just to see holes......the cheaper side of me wins and I see dollars flying out of the barrel.

Refresher courses with Brian Hoffner usually burn 1000 rounds in a single day when I attend. So my records for 5.56NATO, 7.62NATO, 12gauge, 9mm, and .45acp each stand at 1000 rounds in a single trip. That's usually an all day burn with a 9AM start and finishing with 200-300 rounds fired at night but sometimes it we get cut short and get it all done in six hours.

800 rounds a day could take it's toll on the ol' wallet pretty quick. I've had a few 1k round days over the years but usually 1-200 rounds per trip is good for me. I get bored standing in place poking holes in paper after an hour or so.

Have you thought about competing in a local IDPA match? You could make 100 rounds of that 9mm last for 3-4 hours.

Agreed, high round count without a specific purpose is a waste.

IDPA or USPSA matches are a good way to get in trigger time. If you have a club with advanced shooters, you can learn a lot.

Structured training courses or matches are about the only times I burn more than about 200 rounds in a single session.

I have yet shot an IDPA match; I'm planning to go to one next week. I have been doing IPSC matches for the higher round count and fewer rules :) (Just kidding, it just happens to be convenient. But I do want to get into IDPA.)

Yep. Even when I have specific things I want to practice, after a couple hundred I feel like I am just burning ammo.

I have never shot over 600-700 rounds during two-day schools.

out of my Glock with the 22 kit 2 bricks ,full loaded 40 180gr. 400rds.

I shoot 500 rds of 22 per week and 100 rds of 40 S&W per week.


Plus I shoot 100 rds of 300 Win Mag. and 250 to 300 rds of 223 out of my Bushy.

A 1000 rounds of 12 gauge in a single trip? I can't imagine what your shoulder looked and felt like.

No matter how many rounds I fire, the ones that count are the first two, right out of the holster.

We're practicing for defense, and in a defensive gun use, the first two are going to be critical.

I have to admit that I have pulled out my carry gun while rifle shooting...drilled the middle of the bullseye (7-10 yards) with one shot and decided that was enough! Anything more could only be worse and there is no need to practice mistakes!

Try it sometime. Use the pistol setting as much as you can.
