Indoor range in San Antonio (that doesn't cost arm and leg?)

#1

Post by OldCannon »

I see that Thunder Range claims to be the only indoor range in SA. My mom wants to go shoot my Ladysmith .38 tomorrow (to see if she wants it for home protection), but would prefer to go to an indoor range. I think my choices are very limited though.

I've heard good things about Bullet Hole though, and I suppose I can just have her dress warm. She actually lives closer to Bracken, but I'm not fond of the range myself (been there a few times, but not BH).

Any other recommendations? She lives on the NE side of SA, just outside 410.

Bass pro has an indoor range. Don't know about the cost, but have heard good reports about it.

I avoid Texas Guns etc at all cost.

Yeah.. I live right next to Texas Guns (Raymond Rimkis Park area) and I avoid that range like the plague. They want you to pay for their ammo and per person I believe. Ridiculous.

I always head out towards the Bullet Hole. I've been going there since Michelle and her father have been there. Their staff is friendly. Just be careful when there's no range master out there at times. People are idiots with their weapons who don't know how to use one. The majority of times I go I have great experiences. Just some days (rarely) are there idiots out there. :)

Oh, they recently changed their prices from 8.50 to 9.50 and don't accept debit cards that charge under 10.00 (weird). Make sure you bring cash for entrance fee.

Edit:

My GF is from Pflugerville. I make fun of her all the time because of it. :)

A place to shoot is good also, but they charge by the weapon. Also limited to a single target that they provide, since the range is always hot.

Ummmm... Only kinda true. They do charge by the weapon. For me to take 3 handguns out there costs $14. $10 for first handgun, the lane, a target, and ear plugs. Add an additional $2 for each additional gun.

You get one target for the initial upfront cost and can purchase additional ones. Also, you can swap out targets any time you want since they are on a wire system and each lane has control of its own target. Myself, I get the one, complimentary target and then use stick on targets when the first gets blasted too badly.

A Place to Shoot has a become my favorite outdoor range. My only real complaint is that when the target is at 15 yards it is under a roof and a bit hard to see because it is a bit dark.
