I find any airport parking lot or garage (and walking to them) to be far a more likely mugging location than an airport restroom stall with the door locked, particularly when the place is mobbed after a flight lands. Either way, my gun is not my only defense. I practice administrative procedures like loading and unloading, and cannot figure out why my home or my hotel room is a safer place to do so (from an ND standpoint) than anywhere else. But if you are not up to it on the move, then do it at home, hotel or whatever.

PUCKER wrote:Excaliber - take note of the text from the "flying with firearms" section on the AA site, that has changed (regarding TSA locks are now approved), it use to not say that (meaning, it didn't have that part last year, it's fairly new). So, AA policy has changed? Or they (AA) know something we don't? I dunno.
I just received the official TSA answer to my request for information reference tags on cases.

I will use the same procedure for locks.

Bottom line,, AA can say anything they want, and refuse to let you fly with a gun if they want.. The TSA has MINIMUM guidelines and rules but the airlines can not require LESS security then directed by TSA, only more.

The official statement from TSA at this moment is.. gun case MUST be secured with a lock only you control access to.
TSA recommend you place that locked container in another one.... THAT outer container (suitcase) should have a TSA approved lock or none at all...
