Unlicensed open-carry poll: 30.06

I can currently open carry a rifle into an unmarked business. I don't think that a hand gun will incite more fear than an AK-47.

Why don't you mosey on into Whole Foods with your AK-47 slung over your shoulder, and let the rest of us know how that works out for you?

Assuming it's 30.06, Precisely why if I had to shop there, I'd look into giving the Feds more personal info about myself, and paying a $5.00 tax to carry a concealed AOW in instead.... but that's just me, I don't shop there nor have any 30.06 signs in my entire city currently.

It seems I'd be allowed in places "firearms" aren't prohibited, unlicensed, to carry open or concealed, regardless of 30.06 signs.
But you have to fork over $5.00 and give your info to the Feds.
I'm actually quite surprised this method isn't more popular; no class required, ignore 30.06 signs etc. But, a few spots; gun-free school zones don't afford an exemption, since not carrying under a CHL... so having both could be a benefit.

Actually, I mention it because it's one of those places where you're almost surprised not to find a 30.06 sign. Katygunnut seemed to suggest that because it's legal to openly carry an AK-47 in an "unmarked" business, we shouldn't be worried that allowing people to openly carry handguns into "unmarked" businesses will cause concern. But the reality is that if you were to walk into someplace like Whole Foods carrying an AK-47, the management would probably ask the local SWAT team to escort you from the building and then ask you, in no uncertain terms, never to return (with or without your rifle). And then they might just throw up a 30.06 sign for good measure. The fact that it's legal to do something doesn't mean we wouldn't see a negative backlash if someone actually did it.

The act of carrying a long gun into a place of business is legal because the people of Texas don't want the state legislature to try to narrowly define every possible legality and illegality. But that doesn't mean the people won't decide that the legislature needs to define the law a bit more narrowly if people start walking into Whole Foods carrying AK-47s. Likewise, it's reasonable to assume that open carry (or even the highly-publicized "threat" of open carry) might be met with harsh reactions from business owners, patrons, etc.

Ahhh ok, I understand now.
I've never been there. Didn't know the nature of the place.
But I'm maybe some day, of the AOW I could conceal to walk by 30.06 signs.

Actually, I open carry round the house and yard, and though I may be on some FBI satellite photo list (I dunno) lol, my neighbors bring me home made bread and jellies and mow my yard etc etc etc because they see me as a deterrent to criminals while they are away at work/on vacation away from their house/who they call before 911 (Police station is 3 blocks away, I'm right here) etc.


But out away from the house, I've often thought, advice from a guy I was with when robbed once "Never show your hole card."
So I've considered an unloaded open carried 1911, and a concealed loaded gun, so if a "bad guy" tries to take my gun (the one he sees, and tries to wrestle away from me like guys do with police) .... sure but watch out .
Like magicians do .... watch my left hand ..... (guess what the right one did)
And though pretty good at retention techniques ... I mean yes I try to be aware of my surroundings, but you can't be 100% of the time, ....

I voted "NO" because many of the places that post now don't do it right. So, I don't think proper 30.06 signs will be posted. I am sure many will post "attempts" at it when it becomes law but will later remove the bogus attempted signs. Another reason is that 30.06 signs should do nothing to restrict UNlicensed open carry. I don't know what will be used to make it possible for private property owners to restrict O.C. but I don't think it will be 30.06.

I have held they should adopt the exact same requirements as far as size, blocked lettering, contrast and such but with a simple worded phrase in any language of any person that might enter that property. If they are only in English and Spanish that will leave out many in our multi-cultural state. Maybe we should insist on that for 30.06 signs too so we can show how empathetic we are to those who choose not to learn to read English or Spanish.
