Anyone know of a good background check company?

Since I sell firearms out of my house now, I would like the ability to be able to run some type of preliminary check on people. There are so many scam companies I want to see if anyone out there can recommend one. I realize the data will be limited, but something is better than nothing.

If your selling firearms out of your house as a business you need an FFL, and then the FBI will do the check for you. If your selling off your private collection then its a whole different ball game.

I am an FFL and I know all the NICS requirements. I am looking for something to run prior to them coming to my house After they are in my house it is too late.

Publicdata.com is worthwhile and inexpensive, if you have basic information on them.
You can find a lot from a websearch on an email address also.

It's more and more difficult these days... Requirements for being able to run a criminal and credit check are tighter every year. I managed some rental properties for a while and when I started, we could run credit/background checks just by telling the credit agencies that we were considering an applicant for a lease.. Our word was enough for the check (and our payment). More recently, nobody will run a report for you without authorization from the person you want to check out... IMHO, this is a good thing.. I prevents fraud, protects identity and confidential information, etc...

Unfortunately, this is not the answer you were looking for...

Also... used to cost us about $30 per report... Kind of expensive if you're only charging a $20 transfer fee..

I'm interested to see if anyone has a better solution... :ears

You can make them show you a CHL first.

I registered to do the public site for criminal history. I need to call the DPS on Monday and see if I can get access to the secure site, but from the requirements I do not think I am eligible. All I need is full name birth date and race.
