50% of 370 Police Officers are to be dismissed due to budget cuts. Where? Camden, NJ Camden has a pop 80K. I tried to compare, Allen TX has similar pop and some 160 of Police Force. We had 0 murder last year. Camden has some 34 or so.

Who is jumping in? See here:

To add to the trouble, County is also letting 36 Prosecutors and investigators to go home...
CAMDEN — A plan submitted to the Civil Service Commission would eliminate 68 employees at the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, including 26 investigators and 18 assistant prosecutors, according to a report on CourierPostOnline.com.
The plan was described as a worst-case scenario, and a prosecutor said the office is still in talks with the county and union leaders, the report said. The cuts would eliminate more than a quarter of the office's staff.
The cuts come at a particularly difficult time for Camden, as the financially troubled city is set to lay off nearly half of its police force.

Keep your eye on Kalifornia. They are as broke as NJ, if not more so.

Financial reform is in order all over the place including TEJAS. Cutting back on defense/police shouldn't be the first step, IMO. Redundant jobs, agencies, employees and benefits, etc., etc. is the place to start - but who wants to give up their fiefdom or have a smaller slice of the pie?

Camden is not a place you to go on vacation or spend time in unless you absolutely have to.

It needs every one of those police officers, even though a force that size for a population of 80,000 is about twice the usual ratio of officers to citizens.

Look at what will happen in Kali, no Free lunch money to 37,000 families in LA alone. AND, transfer of some 40,000 felon and parolee to local county jails and supervision.

LA would be more vibrant and lovely at night

The chickens are coming home to roost.

I hope their chickens don't try to roost in Texas, unless they want to become Sunday dinner.

How would this not so novel approach to representation work?

Serving in Congress and/or StateHouses is an honor, not a paid and pensioned career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If we had citizen legislators, do y'all reckon that more attention would be focused on the state's needs rather than personal gain?

The Texas average for a city that size is 2.17 officers per 1000 residents. That would be 174 officers for a city the size of Camden. Richardson, which is a little of 91,000 residents had 140 officers in 2008.

In our rural county courthouse, I suspect that there are jobs that have passed down from generation to generation in the same family tree. Is it any different anywhere else? Is it any different in Austin or San Francisco or New York?
