It's legally considered a 'handgun', and you can carry it concealed with a CHL.
The long version is a rifle, and can be carried, concealed (If you can somehow fit it somewhere) or openly, without a CHL.

Re: The short version of an AK thats called a pistol'
On another forum I frequent, there was a story of a man that openly carried an AK "pistol".....and was arrested.
I'm not choosing sides, but it was implied he did what he did to prove a point, and got himself arrested. Here's the news story:
http://www.wsmv.com/news/22041597/detail.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Here's his version of events...you'll need to read through the thread....

And his case as it stands today:

Right, it's a pistol. It's legally a handgun.
You cannot carry it openly, just like you cannot currently carry a Glock, XD, or 1911 openly.
With a CHL, you could, however, carry it concealed.
Also, every state's laws are different. Carry laws in TN are much different than here. I can't comment on the legality of carrying it there, as I do not know the laws.
But in Texas, it's a handgun, and requires a CHL to carry concealed.

Pistol sized aks are generally called dracos if you were looking for a name

Draco is actually Century's name for the AK pistols they produce. They're the most commonly seen AK pistols so I also assumed originally that Draco was a "catchall" term for them.74novaman wrote:Pistol sized aks are generally called dracos if you were looking for a name
Also, I'm proud of this thread. I can't believe we've made it 6 posts without someone calling the OP an idiot for even asking about the Draco as a concealed handgun, as I've seen on certain other forums

Tennessee allows OC with a license and this guy has one. He doesn't need to conceal it there and he wasn't.

Exactly! I have zero issue with what someone chooses to legally carry, whether that's a .22 Short revolver or a .50BMG pistol. I might not agree with their choice, but that's my opinion and my opinion alone.dicion wrote:Hey, if he can find a way to carry it concealed, more power to em!
I run across way too many arguments along these lines... one guy on another forum was getting flamed by everyone for considering OC'ing a Desert Eagle (legally), because it would "give more ammo to the anti-gunners" and "pour fuel on the fire".
I've thought a lot about carrying rifle-caliber pistols like the Kel-Tec PLR-16, Draco and various AR pistols and I think I've come up with a way to do it. It wouldn't be a daily thing, but more of a "Because I darn well can" thing for those days when I'm feeling down and need a boost They'd make nifty car guns though.

If you haven't read all of the news stories and the entire thread on KTOG (among other forums) then you should. This idiot has now had his CCP taken away because he is considered to be a threat to himself and others. One of the pertinent facts omitted from the original version of the story is that he painted the muzzle blaze orange so that it would look like an Airsoft pistol. The same moron also walked down the middle of the street of a local community carrying a Navy revolver in his hand because of an over 100 year old law stating that he could.

I'm intrigued by the responses here, of all places, to someone exercising his 2A rights. Do I think that what he did was the best idea? Not at all. Though I admit I haven't read all the details on his story, but from what I have seen it seems like he's only guilty of... wait for it... legally carrying his guns. What did I miss?

Oh, the guy could be a moron and not playing with a full deck, but I was merely pointing out that he did not need to conceal this "pistol." After what Dicion said, I was only pointing out that he did not have to conceal it.maverick2076 wrote:C-dub wrote:Tennessee allows OC with a license and this guy has one.
