Would anybody support a NCIC check for buying ammo?
Would anybody support a NCIC check for buying ammo? Is there any problem with this idea?
Please help the wounded store owner who fought off 3 robbers. He doesn't have medical insurance.

The idea is to prevent bad guys from buying ammo.USA1 wrote:Yes. It would be yet another infringement on on my rights and privacy.Stupid wrote: Is there any problem with this idea?

There's already a NCIC check to prevent them from getting guns but that doesn't work either.Stupid wrote:The idea is to prevent bad guys from buying ammo.USA1 wrote:Yes. It would be yet another infringement on on my rights and privacy.Stupid wrote: Is there any problem with this idea?
I understand you reasoning but I just don't think it would be practical.

How well has that worked for guns? No, it would only put unnecessary restrictions on us and do nothing to stop criminals. Plus, it would be a major waste of money.

Yeah, because the background check does such a great job of keeping them from getting guns now.Stupid wrote:The idea is to prevent bad guys from buying ammo.USA1 wrote:Yes. It would be yet another infringement on on my rights and privacy.Stupid wrote: Is there any problem with this idea?

Those who want anything illegal find a way to get it. The background check sounds plausible, but just would not work and would create a hassle for the rest of us. Like micro stamping, ammo registration, etc. I sure wish it was that simple, though.

Since it does not work to keep them from getting guns, you just need to further expand a failed program. That's just how the government thinks. Let's just burn more tax payer's money. Then expand the size of government beyond rational thinking. That will surely solve the problem.
Gun control is like stopping drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to drive.

No. The analog would be having a NCIC check for buying paper and ink for my pen to write my political thoughts on. I don't think so.

I wouldn't support this either.

Cynical alterior motive: This would be a way to indirectly track gun possession. With the check that is done to buy a gun, they have no way to know if you still have that gun. But by tracking ammo sales, they'd have a pretty good idea what kind of guns a person has at any time.

Yea, I can see that. Then when I sell more than two boxes of ammo in a five day period I'll have to fill out another form and send to the ATF and the chief LEO in my area (like I have to do now for handguns). I don't think so Tim.....

I see plenty wrong with it. Some folks buy ammo by the case and shoot it hundreds of rounds at a time. Just cause it's fun. We don't need to go on a terrorist watch list because of it.
