Interesting. I think Tucker and Comp Tac's products look more similar...

It was Garrett of Comp-Tac and Tucker who collaborated to make the first commercially-available leather/Kydex hybrid. I'm not sure if Tucker does his own Kydex work now, but it's possible he still sources the Kydex shells from Comp-Tac.

I really do like the idea of that velvet-looking cloth backing on the Tucker too. Has that held up well for you?

It's suede, and yes, it's held up great.

Whenever I finally buy a 1911 I'm buying a leather lined Tucker Answer to go with it.

I couldn't find it today with a quick look at http://www.tuckergunleather.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but I remember reading about that when I was about to purchase The Answer. There was something on the site about Garrett Industries or some such being involved in the design, and maybe supplying the kydex shell. I did not realize Garrett was Comp-Tac.

...I've only tried a coupla kydex...early on, the clips weren't very positive, and they'd pop off the belt...maybe it was just my unusual physique I'm going to try another one...I like the idea of easier re-holstering...the leather and nylon just collapse unless you get the bulkier ones with a band or reinforcement of some kind...thanks for the kydex info...

My 2 recommendations are the Milt Sparks Versa Max II and the Milt Sparks Summer Special... Got 'em both, love them to death. Don't let the wait scare you-- there's companies out there that have their stuff on hand... if you're interested I'll try to find the websites that have them in stock right now...

The Kwart is pretty good if you want a hybrid. During the hot months I don't want leather soaking up sweat so I use a thin kydex holster I picked up for $25 at a gun show.

Ask a gun owner what is the best holster, you'll get a myrid of answers. When I did my research, I was going to go with a Milt sparks, but then I found R Grizzle http://www.rgrizzleleather.com/index.html This is a Husband and wife team that hand make each holster. They did a great job on my SDR IWB holser for my G19. I just ordered a mag pouch last week.

Now, the wait time is about 10-11 weeks, but the wait is so worth it. They did a fantastic job for me.

That's my 2 cents. At least check them out.

I think I'll ping this instead of opening another topic. In regards to the Tucker Answer, IS he doing his own Kydex work now? Asking here because I have a G21 SF with the 1913 rail and not the Glock rail. Holsters are very hard to come by in this format and I need something tuckable and with an adjustable cant and depth, especially depth. I like kydex for the ease of reholstering and his leather lined option looks fantasic in terms of refinement and taking off some of the rough edge kydex can have. The suede backing is also a plus. I have seen both the Comp-tac and the Tucker up close and in a taste test I am siding with the Tucker in workmanship, though there is very little difference. I know he does 21's, BUT can I get it for this pistol?

Yep; I believe you can. The 21SF is one of the models on the list of "standard" Kydex bodies available, and from what I understand the Picatinny rail has been the more popular, so I assume The Answer Kydex bodies Have been sized to accept either the Glock universal rail or the slightly larger Picatinny. I'd call or email to confirm, though (contact info is on their Website, http://www.tuckergunleather.com/).

I believe (but you'd have to confirm with them directly) that the Comp-Tac MTAC holsters for the G21 will also accomodate the slight rail size difference in the G21SF with Picatinny. (http://www.comp-tac.com/)

As to whether Tucker is molding their own Kydex or still sourcing through Greg Garrett, I don't know. Don't think you can go wrong with either holster, though.
