Just kidding, I carry my phone less than 40% of the time (mainly just during work hours). I carry my gun 99% of the time. I think the idea that a CHL (who was willing to interevene and did) would be present while someone was commiting a crime against a third person is pretty far fetched.
With all due respect, don't you think that it is wise to carry a cellphone at all times that you are carrying a gun? If you ever take Charles Cotton's Texas Self-Defense & Deadly Force Laws Seminar, you'll learn that the very first thing you need to do after firing shots (or even after drawing your gun and not firing it) is to call 911 and report the incident before the other guy does. First one to call is the good guy. Thinking anything else sets you up for a very painful lesson.
This point and the similar one in Greybeard's post are well taken.

The phone is useful in situations where someone needs help and you elect not to intervene. It can also be used to summon police response to a developing incident that involves you before it reaches the point of open combat. These are not small considerations.

And if the alternate plan is to use a pay phone, well....good luck with that.

A CHLer may come across you, but one with a gun might be tough to find. I rarely have contact with a licensed person who also has a gun. If they have a gun, I hope their vehicle is nearby as I have yet to find a person with a CHL actually carrying the gun on their person. I keep waiting for someone to bring up their comp-tac or Milt Sparks they are carrying IWB, but so far...nada.

I love to talk about guns..so I always ask about what people are carrying with no hint of confrontation.

Just my observations.

Yes, with 400,000+ CHL holders and 70,000+ Peace Officers a CHL is more likely to "come across" a LEO in need than another LEO. I don't know how much probability of a CHL intervening before a LEO can respond to a 911 or radio call for help.

The ringer on a cell phone can be turned off. You don't have to answer one. You don't even have to have the thing on. All CHL holders should have one on them outside of their house in my opinion. Even one that doesn't have a contract is suppose to be able to make a call to 911. I don't always answer my home phone or cell phone just because I don't have to. But, I have kids and a wife that I want to be able to reach me whenever. I also want to be able to be the first person to contact 911 if I am forced to pull.

I don't think so. You can't call 911 for a CHL.
you wont have to call 911 for a chl holder, you live in texas...should be one standing right next to you!

chl holders far out number police officers....

I've never owned one of them newfangled portable tellyphones, I tried one once but it didn't work because I didn't click send or call or greenlight or whatever, guess I'll hafta get one now. I don't want to call people on it, and certainly don't want anyone callin' me on it, just have it for 911 calls only, looks like that should be a cheaper rate. I need a waterproof one is all I know. Hopefully one that floats.

Next you guys will have me signing up for Facepages :totap:

For clarification, the times that I would not carry a phone would be more along the lines of “out to dinner with friends” than “taking the dog for a late night walk.” In certain situations it is prudent to have your phone on and available, in other situations there are plenty of other options.

I agree with the logic that “the first one to call is the good guy”, but cases aren’t decided by who called first. If I ever (and I hope I never) have to use deadly force, it will not be in a situation that was borderline or could be construed in any other way except justifiable self defense.
