Road trip to Atlanta

#1

Post by jamisjockey »

Headed to Atlanta over spring break via LA, MS, AL and of course GA. Going to work on brushing up on each states laws, but I always appreciate additional information and insight.
We'll be hitting the Zoo and the Aquarium (primary purpose of the visit) while in Atlanta.

The link above is to the Atlanta Cyclorama. This is a gigantic painting
of the Battle of Atlanta. It is right next to the entrance gates to Zoo Atlanta
and is a must see since you will be right there.

The painting is in the round. You seat in theater type seats, but the
whole set of seats is on a moving roundtable which moves 360 degrees in order
to see the whole artwork.

The Cyclorama was painted by a team of artists who painted the Franco-Prussian War.
then were brought to Milwaukee, WI to paint 2 American Civil War cycloramas.

The above link has a 38 second long video where you can see the Cyclorama and the
accompanying Civil War Museum containing the locomotive Texas, as well as period guns.

Concealed carry was not allowed in the aquarium in Atlanta, magnetometers at entrance when I visited a year ago. Check their website for verification.

I was just digging up some threads at Georgia packing and the most recent posts say no metal detectors.

The website for the aquarium says no firearms! Look at the Tips page.

" Safety and Security
For the safety of our guests, everyone must go through the security checkpoints before entering the aquarium. Security teams will oversee the bag checkpoints before entering the aquarium. Security teams will oversee the bag check procedure. Coat and bag checks are available. First aid is available courtesy of Piedmont Hospital, located on the first floor. No guns, knives, lighters, matches, chewing gum or fishing poles are permitted inside Georgia Aquarium."

Yep. I followed the website and didn't carry into the facility. It was amazing, and worth the trip. There were no metal detectors, nor any prominient display of signs saying no guns.
