IWB Carry Position

Also in general to the original topic of carry position. I like the idea of a 1-2 o'clock appendix carry, it seems to me I have more "control" over my firearm. Whereas at 4-9 o'clock I have a percieved probably irrational fear that the gun is more easily snatchable. The problem is that position seems the least comfortable, again, hoping MTAC will help, but I don't know....how do people make it work? Or is it just not that popular because of comfort and some just deal with it?

That's where I carry today -- with an MTAC holster. I've got the cant set pretty far forward and find it the MOST comfortable place for me. A big advantage for me is being able to bend over without exposing the butt of the gun from side carry. Wife can't tell when I'm carrying. I tried all around from front to back and this is what worked good for me.

I Carry a xd 9mm subcompact in a dm bullard tuckable leather holster. I'm 165 lbs 5.7" and carry it @ my 3:00 with at time a good foward cant. I've found this to be the most comfortable, less noticable, due to my arm being right next to it. I tried the 4-5:00 but had to squat like a lady to pick up things off the ground.I hated it, and the 2:30 just hurt me when I sat down. I don't ever really tuck in my shirt. Jeans and a nice polo work fine in most all occasions. The quality and worksman ship

I like the High Noon Hidden Ally for its thinness, it's also tuckable and it has a great steel clip.
For AIWB (appendix) carry it fits me nicely at ~12:30 (RH) and 11:00 seems to work well when wearing shorts.
For 12:30, I would prefer maybe 5 degrees of reverse cant. This one is a straight drop but I'm managing.

I'm still looking for a 3-4:00 holster that I find as comfortable.
Will probably try the Crossbreed based on the raves I've read about it.

I generally carry between 4-5 o'clock IWB. 5'10", 170lbs. 3 o'clock always seems to get in the way for me, I like it behind the hip.

I'm a newbie here, but 8:30-9:00 is good for me, but I'm a lefty so that's a 3:00-3:30 for all your "righties"

Over the weekend I took some tactical pistol training and the instructor briefly went over carry position for holsters. For those that carry OWB he suggested the holster be slightly infront of the seam down the side of the pants. For those that carry IWB he suggested the holster be slightly behind the seam down the side of the pants. This weekend I'll be going through the final phase on this type of training and I'll bring it up to the instructor before class as to why this is his recommendation for carry positions. Has anyone else ever heard this before?

don't have my CHL yet but i've tried a few holsters and this is what i've found works best for me so far (just trying them on around the house). for my M&P 40c i've got a Blackhawk Serpa paddle holster with adjustable cant (holds the gun a lot closer to my body than i expected). i've found that even with a light jacket, it conceals VERY well at about 3:30 with a slight forward cant. the holster i bought is made for the full-size M&P 40 so i used a dremel to cut the length down (the holster extended about an inch beyond the end of the gun) so even short jackets conceal it very well. in fact this past weekend we were out at the family ranch and i was wearing that gun in the Blackhawk holster all day saturday under a light jacket and nobody even noticed. i showed my dad and wife where i was carrying and they had no clue it was there the entire time, and we were outside working most of the day so i was bending over, squatting, picking things up, etc. i wouldn't be able to wear this holster without a jacket though, but it's the most comfortable option i've tried so far.

someone told me about a "pancake" type OWB holster that would conceal pretty well without a jacket, i haven't looked into these yet but definitely will.

still haven't found "the" IWB holster i'd like to use yet, but i have a cheap one similar to the picture below and at about 4:00 it conceals under my shirts very well. i'll probably get a Comp Tac or Crossbreed Supertuck once i start carrying, this thing doesn't hold the gun very securely. i don't feel comfortable carrying at 6:00, it's the easiest place on my body to conceal but is uncomfortable to sit down and the gun isn't as accessible as i'd like, especially since i have a bad right shoulder... despite 2 rotator cuff surgeries. just my 2 cents.

I have the OWB Serpa for my S&W. I am curious to hear the explanation of his positioning that you mention. I carry my around the ranch @ the 3:30 posistion and it comfortable and I can conceal it well with a polo shirt untucked.

Hopefully in a few days my plastic will arrive to carry off the ranch.

Whoops! I plum forgot all about asking the instructor as to the reasoning behind the carry positions he recommended. I'll be taking the course again this summer so I'll inquire as soon as he brings it up.

3:30. I placed my order for my Supertuck on 2/14, and then had to change it to include the LG-448 laser I bought. Since it takes 3 - 4weeks, and then changed to 5 - 6 weeks, to get these babies hand made and shipped, I bought an Uncle Mike's IWB for my Kahr PM9. I also bought a Serpa for OWB. Both of these carried very well at 3:30. I moved them around and got less than favorable results. 3:30 works. The Uncle Mike's did not serve the purpose so well in that it can not be reholstered without undoing your pants. However, I could pretty much forget I was carrying them until they dropped to the bathroom floor with my pants at night.,

Got my Crossbreed Supertuck for my SA XDm 3.8" 9mm Compact with LG-448 Laserguard today. Wearing it at 3:30 right now and barely know it is there. Loaded it with snap caps and have practiced drawing and re-holstering all evening. At first it seemed clumsy, but it is now a second nature sort of thing.

Horsehide was a little creaky at first, but that quieted down quickly. Plan to wear this at home the next several days and really get it broken it.

CCL class is tomorrow, wish me luck. One of these days I will be able to carry outside of my house and car...but at least I feel pretty secure in those two places.

Dont cross-draw....that is not a good way to draw in a real-world situation unless you have a shoulder carry method. If I'm getting out of my car, and there is a situation where I must draw...I think side holstering is the best at about 3-4:00; will be best to take care of my life. Whatever, if you wish to carry at at cross-draw, you better damn well be practicing daily & FAST at that...
