While I don't oppose an education campaign stating facts and statistics, I don't think it will have any effect on the anti's and general public. Their opposition to guns comes from an emotional reaction and no amount of facts or statistics will make them change their minds, and it might even make them hold on to their emotional beliefs even more. Just look at liberals, no matter how much you show them that their policies don't work, the dig even more. We spend billions on _______ (insert whatever liberal cause here) and the problem gets worse. Their answer, "we did not spend enough". It is all emotions and no matter how many facts you can produce, they will not change their minds. The "forcing CHL's to leave their guns in their cars/bicycles where they can be stolen by thieves" argument is not going to do any good. Their response, "why do they need to have guns at all, if they didn't have guns they would not have to worry about them being stolen".
What we need it to combat emotion with emotion. Just like, the Luby tragedy and Suzanna Gratia Hupp's testimony were key in passing CHL in Texas, we need an Amanda Collins and others like her to spearhead the emotions counter campaign.
A third approach is to hit the universities where they hurt, the pocketbook. Have every student that gets assaulted, raped, robbed, etc file lawsuits against the universities and the university presidents for failing to provide protection or failure to allow for them to defend themselves. I know victim students don't have the money to attempt to sue the university, but maybe we can talk some lawyers to take the cases pro bono. If you force universities to spend millions and millions of dollars in more and more security ( a cop in every corner/building, metal detectors, etc) they might change their minds about opposing CHL's on campus. Specially if liability immunity is offered with the bill.
So, in my opinion, we need a 3 prong attack plan:
1. Education (this will be more for university presidents and lawmakers since I believe it will have minimal impact on the general public)
2. Get real victims to testify. People like Amanda Collins, Suzanna Gratia Hupp and specially victims that were successful in defending themselves with the use of a firearm.
3. Hit them where it hurts, the pocketbook by initiating lawsuits against universities that do not allow students to defend themselves.
