ID'd at wally world

#1

Post by johnferg69 »

After a few direct deposit fiascos a few years back I decided to stick with hard (or floppy as it is) checks. As I often do, instead of heading to the bank, I went to wally-mart to cash my check and grab a few things on my way home. I get to the counter, hand the man my check and drivers licence. The man, named Robert, asked to see another form of ID. I looked at him odd and went "huh". Since I had to renew my DL and DPS sniper off the corner of it wally don't consider it valid ID any more. So I ask wally Robert if my SS card will work. The answer was no, had to be a photo ID. I guess I'm not like a lot of folks and have several photo IDs. So I whip out my CHL! NOPE! I was told by wally Robert that Wal-Mart does not recognize CHL as a form of ID. So I'm sorta ticked off now. So I ask wally Robert what I can use. He asked if I had the paper from my DL renewal. As I'm digging thru dozens of folded papers in my wallet I ask "you don't recognize a state issued CHL with a picture but you do recognize a piece of paper I can print off a home computer?". The answer was yes!

Ok, I vented! I feel better!

It makes absolutely no sense to me that a store would take other non-governmentally issued photo IDs but not a CHL. Maybe just tell them it's the new drivers license with a "handgun endorsement"

Have you asked the manager to explain their policy? I doubt it'll work, but I you're there anyway it might be worth asking about.

Sort of like a commercial drivers license or that you need to wear corrective lenses. You can only drive while armed.

The guy was being a donkeys rear end. I used to work at wal-mart, and they accept any form of state, or government issued id. They do not specifically mention CHL in the training, but they do say "state ID' By definition they would have to accept something other than a DL, because not everyone has a DL, so they would be discriminating are they not? Sounds like if you wanted to, you could fight fire with fire depending on how worked up you want to get.

I wish every vendor and store everywhere would demand verifiable ID. I opened my bank account on-line Tuesday to find three unauthorized and otherwise bogus charges to my bank account from some Wal-Mart.com in Arkansas. We live in Texas and are currently in Montana for the summer.

I think that they are getting sloppy. I haven't been ID'ed in WalMart for a couple of years. But, maybe it's just my honest face. ;-)

Before my step-daughter got her license a different Wal-Mart would cash her checks with just her SS card and student ID.
Maybe he's just jealous cause he don't have one!

I continue to find it amazing that people don't see the CHL as "gold" when it comes to verification. For goodness sake, the FBI and everyone else in the country had to give the green light on your character. If someone gave me their CHL, it would have my trust in a flash. People really need a little eduation.

They ID me for that too, then don't give it to me because I'm not old enough yet.

Heck even the TSA would accept a CHL. And they are not so friendly.

I bet the lawyers made that policy, because DPS says a CHL is not a state ID. Or any manager who called DPS to ask, and was told no.
