The license number game has always been a mystery. I took my class in Lake Jackson as soon as I could find an instructor after the law went into effect. IIRC it was taken in Feb. 96. My number has always been 09050xxx. This is no where close to texastactical's number and we took the test around the same time. Not unusual for anything gubmint not to make sense. Go figure.

Hey, Mike! Welcome to the Forum.

Are you going to SO in Frostproof next month?

Yeah, I have no idea how they number licenses, but I'm pretty sure it isn't sequential. A friend of mine who got his CHL around 2008 has plastic numbered 2 million and something. Never thought about the numbering scheme. Hm...

Edited to add: Just saw TAM's 5 million number. So there ya go.

0133xxxx. Plastic in hand 8-3-11. I did take about a 10-year hiatus from an expired license, however. Glad to report I have returned from 'The Dark Side'.

I haven't missed a National Championship since 1997, I will be there working as a Chief Safety Officer as usual (God willing). I'm looking forward to seeing what the World Shoot has in store for us.

You gonna be there?

Well I guess that's what I get for assuming the numbers were sequential. I figured they were since my number was so low. There's still alot of armed good guys out there! Thanks for everyones replies.

Not shooting. But I may try to stir up a business trip to Tampa around the 19th-20th so I can find some time to drive over and be an annoying spectator for a day.

Now that you mention it, I wonder who from the Forum is going to shoot...

Started a new Topic about the World Championship to see who else is going: viewtopic.php?f=51&t=47908" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

I know Gordon Carrell and Greg Garrett are shooting, but don't know who else from the Forum will be in Florida...where, at the rate we're going this summer, it will be much cooler and more comfortable on the range than in Texas... :???:

According to the State of Texas, there were 461,724 license holders on 12/31/2010. Go to http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administra" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... aphics.htm. They have all sorts of reports that we all paid some lucky bureaucrat to produce.
If you want to do something interesting, check out the number of CHL holders by zip code. I did for mine a year or so ago and was quite surprised by the number of CHLers in my zip code. I don't recall the specifics, but it was something like 8 CHL per sq. mile or something like that. Anyway, thought it was interesting.
