Is carrying allowed at LBJ Natl Historic Site? It looks like part of it is State and part is federal.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the national park "section" of the state park in Stonewall is no more but the boyhood home in Johnson City is federal.

Originally, the National park service ran the tour busses and the state ran the main park. I remember the tour busses going away awhile back after Lady Bird died but since you heard it on the "internet" you might want to check it out first. :evil2: :evil2: :evil2:

I only grew up there but I've been gone 20 years. I still visit my mom and like to visit the park but I never took the tour busses and have never seen any signs.

You can't carry inside any buildings operated by the National Park Service, but you can carry outside on on the grounds of NPS property. For the state park areas, you can carry on the grounds and inside the buildings.

I was there a few months ago and spoke with a young man working in the show barn. He told me that the entire ranch is operated by the National Parks Service. The only "gun" related sign I saw was while I was on the guided tour. It was a small sign on the walkway leading to the house. Luckily I had done a little research before going out and knew there would be federal employees working there so I left my gun in the truck.

I did the tour a long time ago and had a great experience. Ladybird was on the side of the road picking wild flowers. Our bus driver had worked for the family when LBJ was president. She stopped the bus and gave Lady bird a lift back to the house!

I'll just leave it in the truck. Thanks for the replies.

Great question. I'm taking the family there next month and hadn't thought about the issue of it being partially federal.

It was worth the trip. The tour takes you through most of the house now and it's put back kinda like it was when LBJ was prez now that Lady Bird is gone. Air Force 1/2 as LBJ called it is there now but you can't go inside the plane. His and Lady Birds cars are there and Lucys 65 Corvette.

Well worth the visit. Great history and insights on LBJ, he understood how to project power. Leave your weapon in your car as they are forbidden inside the house.
it's socially unacceptable to be ahead of your time.

Another great LBJ story. This was before he was president. A friend of mine back when he was young did some work on the ranch. when the work was finished LBJ told him if LBJ could ever do anything for him to just call. Some months later him and some other boys were in Johonson City drinking and got tossed in jail. He called LBJ about 3:00AM and the futute president came down to the jail before daylight to get them out!
