Shooting IDPA @ Shiloh

#1

Post by texanron »

I'll be taking part in my first IDPA match this coming Thursday night at Shiloh. I'm nervous about not remembering the sequence for each stage.

The nerves of remembering rules, procedures, sequence, etc. will stay through at least your first 3 or 4 matches.

I'm on like my 6th match, and I still get nervous, but for competitive, "I want to shoot well" reasons.

Come on down. We all forget the course of fire from time to time. It's a built-in feature of the start buzzer. We typically set them for a 5-second memory wipe, but I've had the effect last longer than that. :biggrinjester:

Seriously though, it happens. I think the courses if fire this Thursday will be pretty direct, since many of us are prepping for the CASA match this weekend.

Please plan to arrive by 6PM for your first match, so that we can do a safety briefing, and answer any last-minute questions you have.

I look forward to seeing you there!!

That club is a great group of guys that make everyone from the master class shooter to the 1st time IDPA shooter welcome. They shoot safe and love the sport.

Go, listen (they will help you), shoot safe and have a great time.

I have shot there a couple of times and was planning on going to CASA with them until the wife objected to me being gone three weekends in a row. They are limited on what they can do with 2 bays, but you won't find a friendlier bunch at a match anywhere. They do a good job of setting up the weekly matches and are able to come up with fun and challenging scenarios. I would shoot there more often if it weren't so far away for me.

Don't worry about not knowing anything The SO's will be very patient with you and don't be afraid to go slow.

I am absolutely hooked on this. I shot at another course a few years ago and didn't feel all that welcome so I never went back. Then ammo got expensive and I basically got out of the shooting habit. I set the whole IDPA thing on the shelf until now.

The guys at Shiloh are great guys. The room is on the small side but who wants to do all that running around anyway. :anamatedbanana :anamatedbanana

Tomorrow will be my 4th match and as long as my scores improve, I'm happy.

I had a great time last night at Shiloh shooting my first IDPA event. Freebirds afterwards was pretty good as well. They have a great group of guys that answered any questions I had. Thanks for all your help Chris! Now I'm off to the IDPA website to get my IDPA membership.

Does anybody remember how long it took to get your membership? I faxed everything over to the IDPA folks on Friday.

I registered online and it was really only mail time. I think it took a week.

In case anyone else is waiting on their IDPA membership:
The folks at IDPA headquarters are running about two weeks behind on processing new memberships. I talked to them yesterday on the phone about the status of mine that I sent in on 10/14/2011. I was told it would be processed on Monday 10/31/2011. I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival so I can shoot another match!

Hey Tex,

Don't let the fact that you haven't received your ID card keep you from shooting a match at Shiloh's. That's a good group and club, shot with them many times, and I'm sure they would let you shoot with them knowing you're only waiting for your card or just processing. Maybe one of them might update you here! :thumbs2:
