Truck Stolen

I know of one truck that was stolen that had it. oddly engugh the guy could only find one of the keys.. go figure. I see them alot and so far I have not heard of any others comming up missing. also look at jimmy jammers.

Give me access to a vehicle with one of these, I could probably figure out a simple way to quickly bypass the system on other vehicles. What can I say? I'm an engineer that loves challenges, and I'm intrigued with Locksport.

I doubt it. If you're in Austin, come to my place and try. I'll give you 10 minutes. That's well outside the "quickly" timeframe. I'd be intrigued if you could succeed.

What's your address? I can be in and out in less than 30 seconds with a repo wrecker or similar. No, not me, but just posting this as I had it happen to me...scumbag with a repo wrecker hooked up to my car hauler and was gone. He did get caught though.

Your tools and such could very likely be covered under your homeowners insurance. Had a Suburban stolen many years back, my personal tools in it - several thousands of dollars worth. Insurance covered the loss less the deductible, and the tool place I bought the replacements from (Proto's) cut me a good enough deal that it offset the deductible.

My BIL had his truck stolen from the Austin area several months ago. It was also a 3/4 ton. They found it bogged down in a low water crossing of the Rio Grande with a couple of big bales of pot in it.

Seems that the 3/4 tons are a favorite of the drug smugglers.

This truck could also end up on the surveillance tape of some business
as it bashes into the building, just before the chain on the bumper
pulls out an ATM for later reverse engineering. :-)

When i had my z-71, first thing i did was put a good alarm on it.

It required me to enter a code upon starting the engine, and would require the code if the door was opened to prevent car jacking. If the code was not entered, the truck would stop after 20 seconds.

Was this a hassle, or did it just become part of a routine after X number of uses? This sounds great- I first thought it would be cool to have something like this after I saw the movie "The Transporter" because not only did it allow the car to be operational, but it started the ignition. I can see how it could have its downsides though, like if you just severely injured the hand closest to the keypad and needed to get somewhere (hospital) fast, or if you were out cold and a buddy who didn't have the combo had to drive you...but those are there exceptions I'm sure.

Saw a two-toned maroon one yesterday on the way to Cabela's in the Trophy Club area, but no tool box or red netting.

It was no hassle at all. the code was your own and could be as short or as long as you wanted. I guess youd be in a pickle if you lost consciousness and your buddy couldnt drive you, but you can also disable it if you wanted to. I guess a good place to disable would be if, say, you and your buddy were out hunting, etc.

The "keypad" was only one inconspicuous button that you would press in a series with pauses. for example, your code is 123, you would push once, pause, push twice, pause, push three times.

Pieces of my truck were found in a chop shop in Garland Texas. After speaking with a detective, the only item that is possibly recoverable is my tool box. The detective will be going to look over all of the recovered car parts today, and let me know if the tool box is damaged.
As expected, the engine and the rest of the big ticket items are long gone. For all intents and purposes, the truck is a total loss. It seems that the shop caught fire while they were working on my truck, and all the individuals fled. The police recovered parts from multiple vehicles, including one that was very recently stolen.

I am happy to hear that the chop shop is no longer in business though. The individuals are still at large, but hopefully Garland police can identify them with some information that I became aware of in the days following the theft. I hope they find them before they can set up shop somewhere else.

Sorry to hear about that, but at least you know. Some folks never find out.
