For instance, a kel tec sub 2000. And I'm speaking from a legal standpoint.

Yep, perfectly legal. Texas doesn't have a concealed weapons law like most states; the only reason we deal with it with handguns is that §46.02 prohibits carrying a handgun at all, and a CHL then in turn legalizes you carrying a handgun concealed. Firearms other than handguns can be carried loaded, unloaded, openly, concealed, or taped to your forehead like you're playing Injun Poker. Just don't threaten people with it, don't go to a location prohibited by §46.03, and you're golden.

Incidentally, I too have a SUB-2000 which tags along with me in a messenger bag on trips and lives in a locked and secured-to-the-frame case in the truck when I'm not on a trip. It's a handy rifle to be sure!

So, get you a short barrelled AR upper and mate it to an AR Pistol lower... Instant pistol.

It is a "Lever Action Pistol"...so...I guess that one qualifies for CHL? I'm not sure, since I'm not a lawyer, but I can definitely confirm that if I sell you one, it gets logged in my A&D book as a "Pistol".

Well I was more talking about without CHL. More like carrying a rifle around in a manner which won't cause alarm because nobody knows it's there haha

If I ever incorporate a full length duster into my wardrobe, I might experiment with my Rossi Ranch Hand and my Keltec PLR-16.

The idea is interesting, if somewhat impractical.

Well I'm saying that if you carried the sub2000, it would count as carrying a rifle rather than a pistol, unlike the PLR. So it wouldn't be bound by the CHL laws because there are no laws about carrying a rifle in Texas really, other than prohibited places.

You two could be the new FFL holders for Red Jacket... Didn't they make such a thing back in the first season? (And with horrible ergonomics, too.)
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

Gawd. I watched Suns of Guns one time. Maybe they're more intelligent in real life (I sure hope so), but that show was ridiculous. I'm an engineer who likes to focus on efficiency, simplicity, and ease-of-use (user experience). I'm the best candidate you can get to design and manufacture the guns. Wear is your TV show?
"I am a Free Man, regardless of what set of 'rules' surround me. When I find them tolerable, I tolerate them. When I find them obnoxious, I ignore them. I remain free, because I know and understand that I alone bear full responsibility for everything I do, or chose not to do."

My work is too boring for TV, and I'm not going to make myself look stupid to make it entertaining.
