fingerprint questions

#1

Post by rcyclist68 »

Hi, new member here. I took my class 2-10-07 and noticed that one or two fingerprints are not very clear, one of them had smudge from fingerprint taker's glove. Should I go ahead and send them in or have them redone? By the way, the class instructor is the one that took prints. If I should have them redone, should I look at getting the digitized prints taken?
Also in the sticky on discussing everything to check before sending in application the last item says TIPS, does that mean tip as in cash, or some other document? Thanks in advance for any info.

Welcome, rcyclist68! I'll let one of our resident experts comment on the fingerprints, but the "tips" are just some good-idea, best-practice suggestions, like writing your application number on all pieces of paper submitted (in case somebody drops a pile of applications and has to put them back in order again), and sending the completed application via a trackable method, like certified mail.

Welcome aboard recyclist68. My experience with FP's have been kinda hit and miss. Initially my prints looked good but were rejected. When I got new ones they really looked bad (to much ink and smudged) but they worked. I guess if you have access to FP cards and if it would make you feel better get them done again. May save time down the road. Sorry I don't have any experience with the digatized prints. Good Luck.

You might go by your PD's fingerprint section and ask a technician if the prints are classifiable.

They make "tabs" to replace bad prints on the cards. The PD or sheriff's office will probably have them, if your instructor doesn't have them.

Thank you all for the ideas. I will check with HPD tomorrow. Should I expect any hassles with them? Or will they be cool about it.

You would probably have better luck at Katy PD.

Since the digital fingerprint thing has been posted on the dps site, our local sheriff's department has stopped providing the service. I have gone online to set up an appointment and already have problems to resolve.

A popup blocker kept me from downloading the ticket I am supposed to take to the appointment ( which is in a motel room). I tried to authorize the pop-up but was blocked from reentering the system. Today is a holiday and the fingerprint concern has taken the day off. I will attempt to begin resolving the problem tomorrow. If they make the process too difficult, I wll go to an instructor who does prints.
