Many of the comments following the article note how the language used seeks to minimize the conduct of the thugs and suggest unreasonable behavior by the man they attacked, but of those I looked through, they were nearly 100% supportive of this mans right to defend himself.

Seems to me, if these kids were in school on a Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM, that this would never have happened.

One should be able to go out and peaceably ride a bicycle without being harassed. I'm only in my late 40's and I reluctant realize that I'm not capable of the physical abilities I once had, so cheers to this guy for recognizing the situation and acting accordingly (IMO). for refusing to be a victim!!!

I'd like to understand how, what, and where the rider carried and had access to, a defensive tool like a handgun.

Carrying a concealed pistol while wearing a Speedo suit and bump hat while all hunched over on a cycle would seem to be a challenge. I'd be interested to know how it was done.

I still wouldn't carry on many of my rides because I have to cross two school yard and often when kids are on them. Still, it would be interesting to know how this guy was packin.
I don't do spandex (out of consideration for public decency) but I find biking attire and all of the bouncing around that I do a real challenge.

Most bicyclists have a pack, either under the seat or over the rear tire, to carry things like a flat repair kit, spare tube, etc. The one I have on my bike is large enough to fit in two or three 1911's, plus a few hundred rounds.

Or, he might have been wearing a fanny pack.

"Riding" five years behind him in age, I will ponder more closely how to safely CCW while riding.

I would welcome realistic suggestions be added to the thread.

I *used* to be an avid cyclist (college team at UNT, Hotter n "blazes" 100, and other rides, etc), both MTB and road (sold the roadie, still have the Y33 MTB though, it's in the garage and threatens to berate me if I don't ride it....). I carried either in a belly band, fanny pack, camel back backpack, or if it was cold enough, in the front top pouch of a pullover shell-type jacket. Good for this guy.

I don't have any specific suggestions but I can tell what I've thought about.

1. On body is the only way I would go. The bike bags that I've seen appear to be just too difficult to get to in an actual event. As in this specific situation, I believe that a bag gun would be unavailable when needed.
2. I have a Kangaroo carry. I like it but even with the limited movement going to church with it has had the shoulder strap fall off. I know now why the leather shoulder holsters are for both shoulders and have a high strap in the back in between. If I were designing my own, I'd use the Kangaroo carry material approach but expand it to the opposite shoulder, too. The Kangaroo retention strap seems like it would work with my LCP. I won't try to hide a 1911 in this kind of a setup.
3. With the fabric type holster, I could still use a light t-shirt where the holster fabric might show through and not be worried. I worry about leather holsters under light bike clothing as being too much of a contrast.

Most of the tech-ware bicycle jerseys being sold today (moisture wicking fabric to keep the chafing and body temp down) are dye-sublimated coloring, so that the jersey is not very, if at all, transparent. Helps to hide body parts that most folks would prefer not be visible, on themselves at least.

I don't have any of the really fancy bike clothing. I have body parts (my expansive middle) that are best handled with a "concealment" garment.

I have gotten to old and crippled up to ride anymore but I used a neck holster to carry my 380 in when I rode.
