The Doctor Knows Best!

#1

Post by DLBConductor »

While getting a annual checkup from my doctor, he asked, "What are you doing for fun in retirement?" I told him I had taken up a new hobby of target shooting at the local rifle and pistol club. He said he used to be a member there before he got so busy in his medical practice. [I first met this doctor back when he was a senior in high school when I tried to recruit him as a student for the university where I taught. We have known each other for over 25 years.]

After discussing the merits of various guns, he asked me if I had considered obtaining a CHL. I said, "It's in my pocket," to which he replied, "Good! I have mine and never leave my house or office without carrying. It just makes sense to be prepared."

We have vowed to get together for some shooting at the range.

How is that for a really great doctor's visit?

It does surprise you sometimes! My doc is holding a CHL class for all of his office staff(and others who wish to attend) at his office. He and his wife are both CHL holders already and carry everywhere--including the office.

There's a guy I know who, when he was a freshman in high school, a car load of high school seniors pulled up by him and wanted him to get out of his vehicle. (They were obviously intent on a little hazing.) My friend stepped out with a shotgun, didn't point it at them or anything, but just had it in his hand, and the other guys decided to leave him alone and get out of there. Kid with the gun got in a lot of trouble from his parents, I heard.
He's now a doctor. I'd be willing to be that he's pretty open to the use of firearms in self defense.

I had a similar experience with my doctor. We ended up talking guns for 15 minutes after all the doctoring business was done.

My Doc Fishes and hunts, when doctoring is done we visit and look at pictures of kills or catches. He's normally in Khakis and boots. And my wife wonders why I don't switch to her doctor. "rlol" I've been going to him for a LONG time.

I always carry when I am taking a family member but often leave in the car when I am potentially needing to be examined. Well, I didn't one time and was there for a back and shoulder strain. I realized too late (was pretty comfortable I guess) and as he lifted my shirt, he paused and said, "'scuse me," and continued to palpate the spasm. That was all that was ever said about it.

The VA outpatient Clinic in Sherman is Posted. I don't remember if it is 30.06 or not, but being a Federal Facility (in a strip mall) I have not carried since they posted it a little over a year ago.

Going tomorrow for a checkup and will try to get a pic of the sign.

What's this Doc's name? Sounds like a great place to try for someone in the market.

A couple years ago I went to my FORMER doctor's office, which happened to be a few blocks from mine, to see if he could help with some stomach troubles. He asked me to remove my shirt. I said, "Just so you are not startled, I want you to know that when I take off my shirt you will see my pistol in my IWB holster. If I will not be removing my pants or loosening my belt, it will be very safe and secure in it's retention holster".

He FREAKED!!!!!!!!!!! He demanded that I immediately unholster and unload it and put it in a drawer for the remainder of the exam. I explained at length that it was MUCH safer just where it was and it would creating a greater hazard by handling it. He insisted. As it turned out the exam never required that I loosen my belt.

He immediately became my EX Doctor.
