No 19K - it's all civil affairs. But you can go to Austin and get nostalgic with the tanks at the museum.atxtj wrote:I already got my veteran discount, but free renewal would be nice, do they have 19k?

"civil affairs" is a pretty broad term, what is the role of the Texas guard? Not really much info on the website, I assume there is no field units?

In recent years the TXSG has been called to active duty for nine hurricanes (Katrina, Rita, Dean, Humberto, Dolly, Eduard, Gustav, Ike, and Alex), the Eagle Pass tornado in 2007, and severe flooding in Marble Falls in 2007.atxtj wrote:"civil affairs" is a pretty broad term, what is the role of the Texas guard? Thank you for your reply, Master of None! We have a few years to go, but I was wondering if my daughter could go this route when she is old enough.

Re: Get your CHL for FREE
I should also mention that handgun training/qualification is part of State Guard training. There is a short video about TXSG Pistol Qualification here
The State Guard also competes in TXMF Marksmanship Competitions, and has had a good showing there:
