I just can't think of anything I would want on my body when I am 80. So no tats for me.

We don't have permits here. Is there a sign or something telling people they need a permit? I don't go door to door selling anything, but I have gone prayer walking. We stay off people's property, of course, but will talk with people if they engage us.

Yeah, easiest would be checking with your city/secretary/permit office etc
Pretty much the same way a company wanting to do roofing/carpet drying/electrical/sheetrock repair/whatever after a storm hits an area checks to see if permits are required to do work, and solicit to do work, on people's houses ...

When someone posts a 30.06 sign some city puts up on city property, I often look at their ordinances and see if they have any outdated stuff, often they do under "Parks" ... so I included those obsolete toothless ordinances which are preempted by State law when writing the city atty, city council, city manager/ mayor, police chief etc.

Used to use it to look up city leash laws and other stuff when I worked at a law firm as an Asst., before I retired.

Came in handy when remodeling and the city demanded I clean up construction debris ... of course I had no construction debris ... overnight the old toilets became planters (flower pots) and bathtub a rainwater recycling collection device (moved it under a downspout) the sheetrock became ground up gypsum to benefit the soil ...after going back and forth on it with the car a few times ...

And, I labeled each item, so when the city inspector did a "drive-by" inspection the next day, it was the last I heard from them. I had prepared a letter and al for the city council, didn't get to use it. ... My dad was proud. (remodeling was so he could get a walker/wheelchair into bathroom, and changed out tub for a tub-sized shower .. etc. ..

Another favorite "backaway" line is asking if you've seen his lost dog / cat / snake / gerbil / guinea pig, etc......

My 16 year old son opened the door Friday to a someone who said they were from the alarm company and there to check the alarm. He told them we didn't call anyone for service and to go away. Obvious fishing.

I reminded him him that he needs to keep the door closed and talk through the door. Since he is 16 and obviously knows everything, he countered with he felt safe because he was holding our German Shepard back while talking at the guy. I impressed upon him again that it is still my house, my rules.

This where video cameras come in real handy. I just flip to the video monitor and see who is at the door. If I don't know who it is, I don't even get out of the chair. And should someone be so stupid to want take that as a sign I am not at home and attempt entry, well my chair has a H & K P7 in the pocket.
