CHL Saturday
'Tis a good day for me in Texas. I took my CHL training today (02/19/2012), learned a lot and had a blast. Being a Brit living in Texas I feel like it is a privilege to be able to 'carry' even thuogh many think it is a right. I am also new on this forum and intend cruising the entries as I can already see that there is a lot of knowledge to be gleemed from all that have been involved for many years. So from the comfort of home, with the weapon safely put away I raise a toast to all that do what is neccessary for us to continue to bear arms in this great state of Texas and in the USA.

Welcome to Texas, welcome to the forum.
What gun(s) do you have?
If you have any Q's about weapons, carry rigs, ammo, or whatever - don't hold back.
Ahh, Britain and the United States - 2 great countries, divided by a common language. :-)

Howdy and welcome to Texas. Hope we all get our license soon. I went to England while in high school and I didn't want to leave. I'm glad I left. I love Texas and really never want to leave.

Re: CHL Saturday
Hi all. Sorry it took a while to get back on the forum, and thanks to all that responded. At last look my license has been approved and is in the 'manufacturing' process. I cannot wait to do the Wally Walk. I took my training with a Glock 19 that was on loan. I currently have a Charter Arms Off Duty .38 SPL. I intend getting a semi automatic but have not done much reseearch yet so am not sure what I will get. I like my 38. I do like the Glock although something a little smaller that the 19 may be better for my short stubby fingers. I am going to spend a little more time on this website than I have done although my schedule keeps me a little busier than I would like to be, so appologies if I do not respond to postings in a timely manner. Meanwhile if anyone has some suggestions for a semi automatic that they really like for concealed carrying please advise. All the best and let's continue to carry the banner for weaponry in the hand of the general public.

Re: CHL Saturday
Heh heh... asking for opinions about a gun on this forum is like walking into the barrio and asking if anyone wants a burrito... you're gonna get overrun with responses! My EDC is a Walther PPS in 9mm. 8+1 of German precision shooting. Fits well into a Comp-Tac MTAC IWB holster. (I also mount a Viridian C5L Light/laser on the pistol - then I use a White Hat Max Tuck IWB holster that's customized for the combo).fortworthdude wrote:...Meanwhile if anyone has some suggestions for a semi automatic that they really like for concealed carrying please advise.
What you might do right offhand is visit a range with a large number of rental guns that you can try out to see which one fits your hand, and shoots well with you in the cockpit! If you're on the north side of IH-30, may I suggest Shoot Smart on IH-35W in far north Fort Worth (Golden Triangle Blvd @ IH-35W on the west service road). Their web page is: http://www.shootsmarttx.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . They've got a pretty extensive set of guns you can try, and some experienced people as RSOs that'll help you out if you need it. There's also Alpine Shooting range in far south Fort Worth (Anglin Road just east of Everman), Elk Castle on the west side, and Winchester Gallery, at Lancaster / E Loop 820 - a shooting range in all four quadrants of the city!
And, welcome to the area and to the ranks of CHL!

What guns a person likes shooting, fits them well, etc is such a uniquely personal choice. Its a lot like cars. Just because I like a certain make and model for my body size/usage doesn't mean you'll enjoy it as well.
Treat gun shopping like car shopping. Read reviews, compare prices, but above all get out and test drive some guns!
