Happiness Is...Fresh Plastic!
When it rains, it pours! Not only has it been pouring rain all last night and this morning, but I've got all kinds of good news in the last 24 hours. Last night I got the email notification that my Crossbreed IWB holster that I ordered on 2/29 had shipped. A week after ordering the holster I realized my run of the mill belt wasn't up to snuff so I ordered their gun belt and just got the shipment notification for that this morning. So far so good as I'll be able to start getting familiar with my CC system this weekend. The icing on the cake, however, is that I finally got the first status update on the DPS website! All the green check marks and the coveted "Background : Under Review" almost brought tears to my eyes after almost three weeks since my packet landed in Austin.
I'm excited and nervous at the same time because I know this is a turning point in my life. A lifestyle change I've been preparing myself for but won't truly realize until that plastic is in hand and I take that first step out the door with my sidearm strapped to my hip. Thanks to all admin and members for my experience so far on this awesome site and thanks in advance for all the news, info, anecdotes and advice yet to be shared.
Here's the breakdown so far:
2/13/12 Online Application
2/21/12 FAST Fingerprints
2/25/12 CHL Class
2/28/12 Passport Photos & Packet Mailed
3/1/12 Delivery Confirmation
3/20/12 Status Updated: Background Under Review

Re: Bonus Level!
It is truly a good feeling walking out the door with it strapped to your hip for the first time, I got to finally experience that yesterday. Good luck to you and may the DPS get you your plastic in a timely manner.

Wow, they have really sped up the process there! Last time I ordered from them it was an 8 week wait. Worth it, but loooooong. I ordered a Comp-Tac for my Glock 30 at Christmas time simply because I did not want to have to wait that long. Turns out this Comp-Tac is a pretty darn good holster. I still prefer the CrossBreed for the ease of re-holstering.Kadelic wrote: Last night I got the email notification that my Crossbreed IWB holster that I ordered on 2/29 had shipped.

Happiness Is...Fresh Plastic!
Went to the mailbox this afternoon without getting my hopes up and lo and behold there's an envelope from the DPS! I thought I could smell a hint fresh plastic in the air! I'll do the official Wally Walk in the next few days, but I did make a quick run to the grocery store this evening to grab some stuff for Easter supper. Thanks to many of the posts I've read in this forum I wasn't overly concerned with printing and such and didn't catch myself checking my cover garment except when I first got out of the car. I must say that my SA seemed even more enhanced, even though I've been consciously trying to stay in condition yellow ever since I started researching getting my CHL a few months ago.
Thanks to everyone here at TexasCHL for helping me get through the waiting period and increasing my awareness of relevant issues in the meantime. I know the journey has really just begun and I feel being armed with the right knowledge and wisdom can be just as important, if not more so, than being armed in the world we live in today. It's good to know that I can now be armed with both when I leave the relative safety of my home.
And now for the obligatory celebration dance!!!

Re: Happiness Is...Fresh Plastic!
Awesome news friend!!!! I got plastic last Thursday and my Sig hasn't come off my side since. with the right holster it really is easy to conceal. I have an IWB and even with my Sig Pro .40 I have had no issues at all. In fact yesterday we had guests over for a BBQ and I had it on the entire time I cooked and no one even noticed.

Good thing nobody had anything bad to say about your BBQ skills!
Congrats on the plastic, and an equally big congrats at carrying it comfortably in front of people.
