This could go in Crime Blotter but I hope as she rethinks her actions it would go in her personal "never again." Call 911. Glad that it worked out well for her this time.

That was very poor judgement. I am glad she was lucky and it worked out for her.
In this case, assuming no family was home, the wise thing would have been to drive past the house, call 911, and hope PD shows up in time.
In general though, 911 is for cleaning up the mess afterwards. Last time I called 911, the operator could hear the shots fired as well as the pellets hitting the house. PD took over an hour to show up and did nothing after they got there. I guess they don't consider it a big deal if some dopehead decides to shoot at people with a shotgun. There is no way I will ever have any faith in 911 after that.
My point isn't to bash, simply to point out that we had better be prepared to count on ourselves.

Re: Mom punches intruder
The last time I called 911 was in Chicago, to report an obviously extremely intoxicated driver. The dispatcher had never heard of I-55. She also didn't believe that Lake Shore Drive has an exit for 31st Street, when I tried describing my (rapidly changing) location using other reference points. She eventually told me that I must actually be in Indiana because she had never heard of these places and should call local authorities there. Then she hung up on me. It's safe to say my faith in 911 dispatchers is pretty much shot.SRH78 wrote:That was very poor judgement. I am glad she was lucky and it worked out for her.
