I signed and this is what I posted:

"This bill is yet ANOTHER attempt by the left side of the aisle to further erode the rights granted by the 2nd amendment. Guns aren't the problem, criminals are. Criminals by definition IGNORE the law. The weapons singled out in this bill are the ones LEAST used in violent crimes or murders. Its time to stop destroying the rights of law abiding citizens and start restoring them instead. How about a bill to repeal the 1938 federal firearms act, the gun control act of 1968, and all subsequent anti-gun legislation that has eroded the constitutional right of law-abiding Americans to keep and bear arms. It is after all "We The People", not "A select few of us"."

I went ahead an signed the petition then went in to browse some of the signatures and their comments. After about 5 minutes, I refreshed and there were 14 additional signatures, from all over the country. I refreshed again and there were 11 more! It looks like it's really going somewhere! I hope it has an impact. There are over 12,600 signatures now.

This is no more than a "feel good" measure that will do nothing to impact crime other than to make upstanding Americans with guns into criminals.

I emailed the two Texas Reps for the JC and got a response from East Texas one so far.

JC March 5 in the Year of our Lord 2007
Dear fadlan12,

Thank you for contacting me regarding gun rights. I appreciate the benefit of your views on this issue. I oppose additional gun control and feel that current gun laws should be enforced so that firearms are kept out of the hands of criminals.

The Constitution's Second Amendment means what it says: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Whether one uses a firearm for hunting, sport shooting, personal protection, or another lawful reason, the Second Amendment clearly protects our individual right to keep and bear arms. I will work to support the rights of gun owners who use firearms responsibly while working to punish those who break the law.

Once again, thank you for contacting my office. I appreciate having the opportunity to serve you in the United States House of Representatives.

With kindest regards, I am Very Truly Yours,
Hon. Louie Gohmert

The Constitution's Second Amendment means what it says:
Those two sentences don't jibe. If he believes strongly in the Second, he wouldn't just oppose additional gun control, he would also oppose the "current gun laws" that he feels should be enforced.

The bill still has no cosponsors. Let's hope it dies in committee.
