New Mexico Drops Several States Including Texas

Like others, I'm a little surprised by this. A big step backwards in my opinion.

Those are things NM has issue with:

Permits issued locally rather than by the state;
No fingerprint-based background check;
1)Permits issued to persons under 21 years of age;
2)Permits issued to resident aliens;
No classroom (static) training required;
No live-fire (dynamic) training required.

Only 1) and 2) apply for the TX. 1) is only for active military soldiers. What is wrong with that? 2) applies for cases like mine. What is wrong with that? Under federal law U I can sue state of New Mexico for discrimination. I am entitled to all US citizens rights other than voting and US passport. Under federal law I can own and bear arms. Why State of New Mexico has to discriminate against those like me, legal permanent residents of USA? Not cool.

I guess you got the rule in the opposition way, if CHL issued by local than state, then NM has an issue with that.

NMDPS has generally found six things that make a state substantially different from New Mexico, and therefore would disqualify that state from being recognized:
1. Permits issued locally rather than by the state;
2.No fingerprint-based background check;

These are the DISqualifiers.

I must have missed a state. They dropped 42 plus VT and IL that don't have licenses.

They honor five: MO, NE, NC, ND, and OK.

That's only 49.

New Mexico may be the most backward, corrupt and broke state in the union. I suspect cash from Texas and other states would get our CHL's reinstated, eh?

This is bad. I live 15 miles from New Mexico and spend almost as much time there as I do in Texas.
I finally get around to renewing my Texas CHL and now New Mexico will no longer accept it?

This is a huge step backwards for them in reciprocity. Reciprocity is two-way. Lots of states may dump NM because of this. It would not surprise me if NM gun owners make themselves heard in the next election and all this turns right back around.
(Then again, NM politics are so goofy, who knows?)

Oh well, open carry is still legal in New Mexico.
They have no problem with vehicle carry with or without a license.
Getting caught in NM carrying concealed without a license is no more serious than getting a ticket for not using your turn signal.

They have a Republican governor who courted the Tea Party vote during her campaign. She is actually a friend of a friend of mine.

There are currently 36 Democrats, 33 Republicans and one unaffiliated member in the House of Representatives.

New Mexico is a Democrat stronghold, and manifestly, the Democrat party has been the party of liberalism; and liberalism has manifestly been the philosophy of gun control and a diminished view of the Constitution. Governor Martinez is a former Democrat who switched party allegiance before running for District Attorney of New Mexico's 3rd Judicial District in 1996 when she realized that her personal beliefs were more Republican than Democrat. Her official positions can be seen HERE.

She and her Lt. Governor running mate John Sanchez (also Republican) were elected in heavily hispanic New Mexico most likely because they were hispanics running against Democrat incumbent Lt. Governor Diane Denish (not hispanic) and her running mate Brian Colon, a New York Puerto Rican transplant to New Mexico.

Actually, in retrospect, Martinez is in exactly the same position as another former Republican governor of an overwhelmingly liberal Democrat state: Mitt Romney. And like Romney, she will be ultimately criticized by unthinking conservatives who ignore context, for not having been as effective a practitioner of conservatism as she could have been had she been governor of a conservative state.

Anyway, look to NM's generally leftist population and legislature for the reason why Texas reciprocity has been dropped.

...that leaves loaded car carry for defense...and unloaded on-person carry in many locations...not optimum but better than some states...my choice is just to strike NM from the list of states I'll spend money in...

Getting to CO via NM is prettier, but getting to CO via OK and KS is faster... Minimum impact for me, but still unfortunate.
I hope they get the sand out of their undies on this soon.

Atleast I never go to New Mexico. Not like there's a whole lot to do there anyways.
