Hey, that's a Clear Lake/Kemah mope.
He had nothing to do with the City of Galveston.

Clear Lake Shores and Kemah are in Galveston County and it was reported in the Galveston Daily News, so he counts as a Galveston mope.seamusTX wrote:Hey, that's a Clear Lake/Kemah mope.

The subject line of the OP doesn't specifically say Galveston City. Where's a moderator when you really need one?

Bill, everyone in the world who has heard the word Galveston thinks of Galveston Island—especially on account of the hurricane coverage.
Nobody thinks of Kemah, League City, or all those little towns along Dickinson Bayou.

I know that most people out of the area don't know that these towns even exist. I was just giving you a bad time.seamusTX wrote:Bill, everyone in the world who has heard the word Galveston thinks of Galveston Island—especially on account of the hurricane coverage.

Re: Galveston: Today's mopes and dopes
In Galveston early this morning a Houston couple who are both police officers arrived at their west-end vacation home.
They found a man in the house who claimed that it was his house and pointed a handgun at the legal owner.
The police officer defended himself, and the burglar is now occupying a small, chilly space in the morgue.

I hope they can get the blood stains out of the carpet.
When in doubt

If you get to the stains quickly they can be washed out. Sometimes the problem is the amount of time it takes to process the crime scene.
If the man was "squatting" in the house for a while, there could be worse things to clean up.
P.S.: Here's a more detailed account, including the exact street address and photo of the house:

This is a fine example of what a bad guy's target selection error compounded by bad manners will get him - at least in TX.

Re: Galveston: Today's mopes and dopes
I don't know if the full story will ever be known.
Squatters occasionally break into these west-end houses when the house looks unoccupied, but usually they have the good sense to flee or hide if someone shows up. More often intruders are local kids stealing booze or whatever catches their eye.
This kind of self-defense incident is quite rare. There may be an incident like this on the west end once in two or three years.

I don't know if there is a "full story" other than the already written. It sounds like the bad guy was at the wrong place at the wrong time.seamusTX wrote:I don't know if the full story will ever be known.

Re: Galveston: Today's mopes and dopes
If this was a grifter, usually they can talk their way out of just about anything.
He could have claimed that it was the house of a friend that had let him live there, or that he had the wrong address. The homeowner probably would have called 911 and in the end it would have been nothing worse than a trespassing charge.
Maybe the guy was delusional. I dunno.
