I don't mean to derail your thread here, however I am new to the forum and attending the july 23rd Chl instructor class.

I will be shooting my Glock 22 and my colt diamondback 38. I noticed in a previous post that y'all refered to "Marty" for glock work. I am needing to get a new set of sights and possible a bit of trigger work done on my glock. Can you pass on his information?

Also what is the lighting like at the DPS range? I have heard it is a very nice facility, I just have been practicing with my revolver at a indoor range and it tends to get a bit dark and hard to see front sight at 15 yards. I was thinking about putting a little bit of white out on my front sight but don't want to ruin the blueing on the gun.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! :patriot:

I can't help you with Marty's info but the DPS range is an outdoor range so whatever light mother nature gives you is what you get. It will be super hot! I am doing my reshoot with the instructor class on July 27th I am shooting at 8:30 with the 2nd group so if you are in that group I will be there!

Welcome! We are glad to have you with us :tiphat:
Marty knows everything "Glock". He is the husband of Crossfire who moderates here. She will likely see your inquiry and respond soon or you might contact her directly.

The lighting at the DPS range is good. It is outdoors so pray for no rain and maybe a little breeze this time of year, :biggrinjester: The quals will be in the morning in two relays if it is done the way it was in April when I was there. It is an impressive range. Very nice berms. And they run a tight ship on safety. Make sure you have a good tight collar and hat since the guy on your left might wing some brass your way. I fielded a lot of them to the side of my head that day. Sunscreen is not a bad idea either. Good luck on your class. You will find they work hard to make the class interesting and effective.

Thanks!

Do they allow laptops in the classroom, or is it even worth using? Guess it's the recent college graduate in me that wants to take my computer to "class".

I will try to get in contact with Crossfire if she doesn't contact me shortly.

They will hand you a gi-normous binder with a gold mine of info in it. Printouts of the slides are in it with areas for notes next to them. I don't think the laptop is needed, but you might want to take it just because you want the option. I stayed at the Comfort Suites and liked it a lot. It is a gun friendly hotel and you can get the DPS discount if you ask and tell them you are attending the class. :tiphat:

I will take in just incase.I also booked my room at the comfort suites, it was an excellent room rate in my opinion.

I am a bit nervous about the qualification after reading some of the post but I don't believe the pressure will get to me! Any ranges near by that I may be able to shoot the night before?

Our class was so full there really was not any room on the table for a computer. The binder they give you will have everything you need in it.

I am only having to redo the shooting because I had a poor revolver to do the target shooting with and I majorly psyched myself out. I shot at a range that week in Austin but I went right after class and got stuck in rush hour traffic in Austin and as far as indoor ranges go it was not wonderful. I worked but I wish I had not spent 1 1/2 hours in traffic to get there.

DPS range will be sunny and hot on July 27. You can count on that! Don't worry about the light, but bring plenty of cold water.

Call Marty at 682-521-4966. If you are near Cabela's, you can usually find him there, except on Fridays.

BTW, one of our associates will also be in the July 23 class.

As for the computer in class, as already said there is not a lot of room. I would just take notes in your notebook. You really need to focus on the Instructor and the things they are showing you on the screen. It is not a hard topic, and many of the things you should have already learned in your CHL class. Just listen and interact and you should have no problem at all with the classroom portion. :thumbs2:
