Of course I accept that not all who are exposed to violent games & movies will become mass murderers, & I also agree that evil has existed since the first man walked this land, but, there is a correlation that exposure to violent media desensitizes. Certain music soothes while some increases agitation. Music was used at Guantanamo to "loosen up" some of the guests. (still to this day if I hear Debbie Boone singing "You Light Up My Life" I wanna kill) So I can accept being exposed to certain other forms of media stimulation can nurture violent behavior.

Has anyone heard/read why he stopped? Did he run out of ammo? Just felt he'd done enough? I haven't read anything that tells that part of the story.

This was one sick individual. No one to blame but himself. As for his mother's reaction, I applaud her honesty. Not all parents willingly admit their children's faults. Sometimes it is just a feeling a parent will get from an action/reaction, a spoken word or repeating behavior by their progeny that will put up a red flag in a parent's mind.

Guns purchased at two Gander Mountain, and two Bass Pro shops. All purchased legally.

Since he purchased them with criminal intent, the legality of the purchase is questionable.

I think you misunderstood him. He was saying that some theaters may "not be good with it (carrying)" and "if not -- in texas they have two choices, one of the big signs, or notify each person..."

it wasn't "if not in texas", it was, "if not (good with it), in texas..."

Ive been patiently waiting and yet no one has stated the obvious; this slaughter is not about access to guns, it's about the influence of violent video games and movies on easily influenced young kids. Due to the media bombardment, our society has become indifferent to commitment to marriage, illegitimate children, same sex pairings, character, drugs, and work ethics.

I have to agree with Jim on this one. I agree that we all have free will, and in the end we cannot place blame on anyone or anything but our choices, but I believe there is a direct correlation between what we fill our minds with and our behavior. As a middle school teacher, I can attest to the fact that what Jim has stated IS a contributor to what is happening in society. I know what my students watch/play/listen to. I give them a "get to know you" quiz at the beginning of each year, and they are happy to share that information with me. Then I go on iTunes and check out what they've shared. In 12 years, I have seen a HUGE decline in the quality and content of their entertainment. Along with that, there has also been a decline in the attitude/demeanor of the students in my classroom. What used to be a "big deal" is not anymore. They do and say things that astound me and then are insulted when I call them on it. They ARE desensitized and truly don't see that they did anything wrong, and when I call their parents, more often than not, the parents don't see what a "big deal" it is either.

We may never know what motivated the dirtbag Friday evening, but I'd be interested to know how he spent his free time as a teenager.

They posted my reply and others that were not favorable of his view. However, most of his readers were like this one.

"i share your views roger, as well as your deepening cynicism and disillusionment about the problem of guns--and particularly assault weapons--in this country. it seems that the only way gun lovers ever experience a change of heart is when they or someone they love becomes a victim...and even then, most only seem to come away even more convinced of the goodness of weaponry."

Several of the pro gun posts were correcting his statement about an AR-15 being able to fire ten bullets with each pull of the trigger.

I'm almost hesitant to bring this up (because it DOES sound a little creepy). Yesterday a guy called into a local radio show (Mar Davis) and said (among other things) "my wife won't give me crap about carrying at the movie theater anymore." I remembered my wife and I settled that one a couple of weeks after I got my CHL. I had forgotten our conversation until I herd him say that on the radio.

I told her about the comment, and reminded her of our conversation when we got home. It went something lie this:
Did you bring your gun HERE? (in the movie theatre)
Yeah
Do they allow them here?
They didn't have a sign up, so I'm OK.
She didn't ask WHY, but it did get me thinking, and I said
You know, if I was an idiot looking to cause a problem, this would be an easy target. Dark, lots of people close together, and so totally engrossed with what's on the screen that they wouldn't figure out what was going on until a lot of damage was done.
She remembered the conversation, and then said "that's kinda creepy"

I'm going to assume she meant the apparent prescience, and not my thought pattern...

Someone needs to follow the money. Where did this unemployed kid get the funds to purchase multiple weapons, ammo, body armor, riot helmit, gas mask, neck and groin protector, and sophisticated bomb making materials?
