Mag capacity???????

Post by papabear »

Though not new to shooting, I am relatively new to "working on or modifying handguns."

7rd mags & 8rd mags for 1911 are the same OAL.
Can a factory 7rd mag be converted to 8rd by changing the spring or is there an internal stop that makes it a 7?

I'm not experienced with this personally, but I believe the answer lies in the internal spring & follower in the magazine. I believe the springs for 8 round mags have fewer loops and shorter followers.

The Best 8rd 1911 mags are the Wilson Combat 47D's. Natchez shooting supply has them for about $22 each when you order 7 of them. I am now the proud owner of a Springfield Armory Operator. My first 1911 w/rail and steel frame.
