I am No Longer Looking For A Shield

#1

Post by carlson1 »

I had spent some time looking for a S&W M&P Shied for carry. I finally found one to hold and look at. The sticker price was $469.99 plus tax. I just could not tell much difference. My wife dear wants one, but I will have to try and find a used one.

I then found this video and it confirmed my decision. Thought I would post it just in case some of you were consider spending the extra dollars for a Shield it would give you some more insight.

$469.99 is just too high for a Shield. I bought one for $399. And as far as extra dollars for a Shield? I thought the M&P compacts were higher. Been a while since I have priced them though. Just today I started looking at the M&P compact. I think I am now wanting to trade in my Shield for one. I want the few extra rounds for a better peace of mind.

Well if you decide to sale just let me know. You will make my wife very happy. She really wants one since holding it because it is thinner than her G26. I just could not see paying that price. They are even higher than $469.99 on Gunbroker.

They are very scarce and that may be why the dealers are marking them up. I live in DFW area and could not find another. This past week while in Tyler I went to three shops and they did not have any. In fact the gun shop on Hwy 155 right out of Tyler said he had a waiting list of 37.

I will keep you in mind if I decide on the compact. I bought mine back in April in Tyler. There was a gun show going on that particular weekend but they were all crazy on the price too. I left the gun show and went to Gander Mountain on the south end of Tyler and bought it there.

I had no idea that they were getting so hard to find. I thought about maybe getting a couple of extra mags to have the rounds I would be comfortable with, but I believe they are hard to find also.

There was one for sale today at the Tyler gun show for 499.00 plus Tax. I'll pass at that price. If you want one...the vendor was in the very back corner of the big room.

Wow! That is crazy. I suppose I was lucky to get the one I have at the price I gave for it. Suggested retail is $449.00 plus tax. I was going to go to the Tyler show today, but decided I would wait for the next one in September. You live in the Tyler area Blindref757?

Carl,

Thanks for posting that video. The Shield was on my short list. You mentioned the price of the Shield at $469.99. Wouldn't the M&P 9c be even more expensive though?

I've thought about the new Springfield XD-s also, but now think the Xdm 45c might be a better purchase. I guess I need to decide if I want to start "playing" with a larger caliber, or do I stay with the 9mm.

Live in Whitehouse...went looking for PMAG's...found some and a soft case for my AR. Ammo is priced right...but low fundage right now. Could have spent 500+ if I had it!!!

Jeesh. I'm looking for one of these. I hope that I can find one that hasn't been marked up!

There is a .40 Shield on one of the gun forums (I forgot which one) that he is asking $500.00. I sent a message asking how it compared to a .9mm and he does not win the personality of the year award. It has been posted for about three weeks now with no hits.

The 9mm and .40 Shields are identical in dimension. The only difference is the .40 carries one less round.

Anyone considering the Shield should also take a serious look at the Kahr CM9. The Kahr is smaller and more pocketable. You lose a round with the flush magazine, but it is an expected trade off for a smaller footprint. You also lack the thumb safety on the Kahr, so that's another consideration.

The Shield is a bit larger than I want for the pocket, but I think it's a very nice option for a thin IWB carry.
