I haven't seen many M&P Shields on Gunsamerica. Last I saw went for $519. Plenty of M&P compacts running around for the low $400's though.

Thanks for posting that video. The Shield was on my short list. You mentioned the price of the Shield at $469.99. Wouldn't the M&P 9c be even more expensive though?

I've thought about the new Springfield XD-s also, but now think the Xdm 45c might be a better purchase. I guess I need to decide if I want to start "playing" with a larger caliber, or do I stay with the 9mm.

Have a look at the Kahr CW45 and the Glock 36 for a decent to shoot and good to carry .45acp. The XD-S is a nice pistol but they are harder to get that the Kahr or Glock. The down side the XDm 45c is that it's still the double-stack width.

I have a .40 M&P Shield which has become my EDC. It's noticeably thinner for IWB carry than my Glock 27 and much more pleasant to shoot than my Kahr PM40 (though a bit larger). YMMV.

If you have a G26 but want an M&P 9c, I could maybe talk my wife into a trade....

Anyone considering the Shield should also take a serious look at the Kahr CM9. The Kahr is smaller and more pocketable. You lose a round with the flush magazine, but it is an expected trade off for a smaller footprint. You also lack the thumb safety on the Kahr, so that's another consideration.

The Shield is a bit larger than I want for the pocket, but I think it's a very nice option for a thin IWB carry.

I have to second this, only because I have a CM9 winging its way to me as I type. I was between a few pocket pistols and decided on the CM9 over the S&W 442 thought I'm sure a 442 will find its way into my safe one day.

I had spent some time looking for a S&W M&P Shied for carry. I finally found one to hold and look at. The sticker price was $469.99 plus tax. I just could not tell much difference. My wife dear wants one, but I will have to try and find a used one.

I then found this video and it confirmed my decision. Thought I would post it just in case some of you were consider spending the extra dollars for a Shield it would give you some more insight.

$469.99 is just too high for a Shield. I bought one for $399. And as far as extra dollars for a Shield? I thought the M&P compacts were higher. Been a while since I have priced them though. Just today I started looking at the M&P compact. I think I am now wanting to trade in my Shield for one. I want the few extra rounds for a better peace of mind.

I did what I posted I would not do and that is buy a Shield. I didn't buy one my wife did. Thanks Tomtexan for your help to make a lady happy. We all know when the wife is happy everyone is happy. The good thing is now I can get my Glock 26 back.

I was seriously looking at the Shield as well but after seeing the current prices and size compare to the Glock, I chose to pass on it and going back to trusty G19 for the extra rounds and better shootability.

I don't have a Shield, but I have done quite a bit of research on it to see if I would want one. What I learned is that since it is a single stack and therefore provides a slimmer profile for possible pocket carry as well as possibly more comfortable to carry on the waist. If you want more rounds, then this is not the handgun for you. It's designed to fill a niche.

One additional plus to this over a standard M&P is that supposedly it has a much better trigger to it. Though S&W is said to have stated that they will be putting the improved trigger in ALL of their M&P series. That process will undoubtedly take awhile.

I was looking at the Shield also. I decided to go with the compact M&P in 9mm. Really like that setup! Not to heavy for all day carry and you have a 12+1 capacity. Not too bad concealing OWB, haven't tried IWB yet.

I have both and it depends what my dress for the day is. The Shield just disappears in a Minotaur. Works great for me with a t-shirt. I have some extra poundage and casual is great with the shield. Normal everyday carry is 9C in my suits. Went to range with a friend last night and he noticed the great trigger on the Shield.

Anyone looking for a Shield in 9mm, Carter's Country in Pasadena had one yesterday. But it was marked way up at 469.99. Nice looking gun and I believe it is the only pocket 9 to come with 2 mags.

Just got my Shield yesterday.

I haven't taken it to the range yet, but the difference in the trigger from the M&P9c is pretty obvious even with dry firing. It just seems more "crisp" to me. You pull and then feel the trigger reset. I plan to take it to the range today or sometime this week to get a better sense of the weapon.
