Coming Oct. 1st: Signature line limits
The mod that was added to convert photos to links in reply posts is working well and it makes quite a difference for people reading the Forum with an iPhone, Android or other mobile device. To further help people using these devices, we are going to set a 4 line limit on all signatures, effective October 1st. Some signatures take up 2 inches or more on my large screen, so they pose a real problem for mobile devices.
Please make sure your signature meets this requirement by October 1st.
Thanks,
Chas.

Charles, how does this translate in characters? Previously, the limit was 300 characters. What will it be reduced to?

How come I can't log in with my Android? I spend 5 months away from the 'home ranch' and sometimes get curious as to who is sayin' what about somethin'?

That's a good point we didn't discuss. I'll bring it up with the Moderators. The Annoyed Man wrote:Charles, how does this translate in characters? Previously, the limit was 300 characters. What will it be reduced to?

I don't know why you can't. I can.Oldgringo wrote:How come I can't log in with my Android? I spend 5 months away from the 'home ranch' and sometimes get curious as to who is sayin' what about somethin'?
Re: Coming Oct. 1st: Signature line limits
The easy option is to keep it at 300 with a maximum of 3 carriage returns = 4 lines. That avoids the argument over line wrap for quotes being different for horizontal and vertical phone orientation, font size, etc.Charles L. Cotton wrote:That's a good point we didn't discuss. Four lines with a character limit per line is what we'll likely adopt. That keeps the presentation better on an iPhone rotated 90 degrees.recaffeination wrote:The easy option is to keep it at 300 with a maximum of 3 carriage returns = 4 lines. Will the change preclude images in the signature?Charles L. Cotton wrote:Four lines with a character limit per line is what we'll likely adopt. No, not now anyway. We haven't received any comments/complaints about signature line photos being a problem for mobile devices.puma guy wrote:Will the change preclude images in the signature?Charles L. Re: Coming Oct. 1st: Signature line limits
Thanks Moderators! It's nice seeing new people post their timelines in a waiting room thread but seeing a dozen lines in their signatures on every post is a bit much.Charles L. Folks, bringing this back to the top. Just a reminder to edit your signature lines to no more than 4, including blank lines. Please get this completed ASAP.
Thanks!!
