renaissance festival?
I tried to search the topic, but nothing too recent popped up. Has anyone been to the Renfest this year and noticed any signage or had any problems? I'm going soon and just want to get an idea of what to expect. Thanks.

I agree...fadlan12 wrote:No signs 30.06 there are some 51% at the alcohol serving places. do a search on here there is a thread.
The only problem with that is I hope you have a good retention holster or deep conceal rig...
I have a friend who is a performer there, and has been so for many years...We went earlier this season, and when she saw us...Well, you know, we were getting picked on...
Without her going out of character, she asked me (in a very low tone) if I was carrying, I told her no, not this time...She's one of the few outside my small circle who does know...
Good thing...
All in all it is a pretty neat place to visit and have fun, which is the most important thing...
They've only had one serious incident there involving a death out in the parking fields...And that was weapon (firearm) related...
And the alcohol 51% sign is in the drinking joint across from the jousting track area...Thats the only one I know about, and have seen...

And Mr. Lee, I did read that one, but it doesn't have any info from anyone that attended this year, but thanks.

Well this was from the other thread
And I went there 2 weeks ago. No signs anywhere. Just 2 sheriff deputies up front. I decided not to carry that day.hk940

just got back from the renfest.
no wanding, no signage, except the 51% that is only if your in the "bars". As I understand it The border of the bar is a 4"' wide sidewalk right where you buy beer. Once you take it away from the designated "area" you are in the common area and 51% does not apply.
There was no 30.06 sign at any of the front gates. Just a bored sheriff deputy.
I noticed quite a few cameras in trees and on buildings but not much police presence. In the 7 hours I walked around I saw one deputy other than the one that was at the front gate as I came in.
All in all, It was cool. I miss SCA and the Sword fights.
Seems like every year it get’s a little more commercial with more China junk and less local wares and real hand made stuff made by real craftsman.
we need a houston crew day at the ren fest.

No PC section 46.035 (f) (1) issues here? I admit I'm an RF ignorant. I assume the "more than 120 days in each calendar year" would trump anything else. It only runs for a couple of months a year, doesn't it?

I think the Renaissance Festival fails to meet 46.035 (f)(1) within the first sentence.Texas Penal Code wrote: 46.035:

The facility is permanent. The buildings are not removed at the end of the season. Ren Fest only runs for 10 weeks out of the year, and only for 2 days each of those 10 weeks, so it's only open 20 days a year. Falls a bit short of the 120 day definition in 46.035.Freedom4All wrote:Skiprr wrote:No PC section 46.035 (f) (1) issues here? I admit I'm an RF ignorant. Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

I don't believe anything has changed in years regarding the carrying of firearms inside or to and from where you park at this festival...JLinTX wrote:Anyone know if it is still not posted for this year too? Like I said last year...The only concern I have is in the retention of the firearm...
There is a lot of improvisation with the performers and non-sanctioned attendees...Lots of grabbing and running and jumping around...
I would recommend a deep conceal, fanny pack or some other form of rig that keeps it on you...
And above all have fun, don't pull a lot of your hair out trying to finesse this one...
